00:00Hello and welcome to the Metal Viz forecast for the weekend.
00:04Colder weather is set to return next week but before that happens, it's actually going
00:08to turn a little warmer for a few days.
00:10Heading into the weekend, an area of low pressure dives south, replaces the high that's been
00:14sitting to the south of the UK all week and brings a warmer plume of air from the near
00:20continent on a southerly airflow.
00:23Now we're in between two weather fronts across much of the UK in an area known as the warm
00:27sector so it's relatively mild air and most places frost free starting off Saturday.
00:32It's also for most a dry and bright start but there are a couple of exceptions.
00:37The boundaries of this warm sector are two weather fronts.
00:40One lingering around Orkney and then into Shetland throughout Saturday bringing a lot
00:44of cloud and some dampness and another front just bringing a thickening of the cloud there
00:48across parts of Northern Ireland into Wales and the south west of England.
00:52Showery rain associated with this, the most persistent weather or rain I should say across
00:57Cornwall along with a keen breeze.
01:00That's going to make it feel on the cool side if you're around the south coast or the east
01:05coast but inland, out of the breeze, plenty of bright weather through much of the rest
01:10of England, much of Wales, southern and western Scotland as well and some bright interludes
01:15for Northern Ireland.
01:16Where we've got the brightness and where we've got some shelter from the breeze, it's going
01:21to feel very pleasant indeed.
01:2215 or 16 Celsius fairly widely inland and in one or two spots the potential for 17,
01:2818, perhaps even close to 19 degrees.
01:32Later Saturday there's actually little change.
01:35Weather fronts linger across the far north of Scotland.
01:38Low pressure lingers off the coast of Iberia and that will continue to churn up areas of
01:43showers circulating around this area of low pressure and most likely affecting parts of
01:49the south west of England, particularly again Cornwall.
01:52So whilst many parts of the UK will experience a dry and bright weekend, if you're in Cornwall
01:57and some parts of South Devon for example it is going to be generally damp with some
02:01heavier rain for a time early Sunday, that pushing up through the rest of Devon into
02:05Somerset later in the day.
02:07A lot of cloud associated with this for much of the south and south west into Wales as
02:11well and at the other end of the country we've again got cloudier skies and outbreaks of
02:16persistent rain, particularly for Shetland.
02:19But in between, once more plenty of dry and bright weather, just an indication there of
02:24some fog coming into the east of England towards the end of the afternoon.
02:28But for many where we've got the dry and bright weather, where we've got some shelter from
02:32the winds, temperatures reaching 16, perhaps 17 degrees, so perfectly pleasant.
02:37That's all about to change however through the start of next week you can see an area
02:41of high pressure to the north of the UK starts to extend southwards but that's associated
02:45with much colder air coming in from the north and the isobars tighten up for a time as well.
02:51So with cold northerly winds we're likely to see one or two wintry showers across the
02:55north and the east of the UK, drier and brighter once again towards the south west, we lose
03:00those showers that will be affecting the south west of England through the weekend, sunnier
03:05skies replacing them but it's going to feel cold in that wind and with colder air moving
03:09south across the country expect throughout next week plenty of frosty mornings.
03:14But once the frost disappears in the morning I think we'll see a bit more sunshine through
03:19the afternoons of next week.
03:21Before all that a pleasantly warm weekend for many away from the rainier parts of the
03:26south west and the far north.
