Cross Gates railway bridge to be demolished

A bridge over a railway line in Leeds is set to be demolished and rebuilt as part of plans to electrify the route.

00:00As part of the TransPennine route upgrade, Station Road railway bridge and crossgates

00:06will be demolished and rebuilt between March and November. A key part of the plans is the

00:11electrification of the 70 mile line between York, Leeds and Manchester, and Station Road

00:16bridge is currently too low to accommodate the overhead line equipment.

00:21From Monday 31st March to Tuesday 25th November, the southbound carriageway of Station Road

00:27will be closed to enable reconstruction work to take place.

00:31One lane of the northbound carriageway will also be closed to enable work to take place

00:35within the central reservation. A section of Station Road above the railway

00:39will need to be closed in both directions for part of June into July, to allow the existing

00:45bridge to be demolished. This will also involve weekend closures of

00:49the railway line with train services diverted and replaced by buses.

00:53The footway on the western side of the bridge will remain open during those works.
