White Rose rail station construction to recommence

Work on the part-finished White Rose rail station will start again within the next few months, Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin has announced.

00:00The major White Rose Rail Station project in Leeds may have been poor since early 2024,

00:06but a fresh announcement now indicates construction will soon be back on track.

00:10The delay has been blamed on a number of on-site challenges, but ongoing coordination between

00:15Network Rail, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Project Partners has now resolved

00:20legacy issues, clearing the way for essential highways and access work to recommence.

00:25Subject to approval, Network Rail will take on delivery responsibilities at the station

00:29which is located on the Leeds-to-Huddersfield line, adjacent to the White Rose Business

00:34Park and a short walk from the shopping centre.

00:37Key outstanding works at the station include external cladding, internal fit-out, mechanical

00:42and electrical systems such as lifts, operational railway components including signalling and

00:48customer information systems, as well as surrounding highways and access improvements.

00:53The Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracey Brabin, has highlighted the significance of the progress,

00:57describing the station as a catalyst for local regeneration and growth and has thanked Network

01:03Rail for their role in overcoming obstacles.

01:05On the 22nd of January, Combined Authority members will consider £1.4 million in development

01:12funding to formalise agreements and allow project remobilisation.

01:16Updates on full completion costs, contractor appointments and estimated opening dates will follow in future

01:22meetings.
