Transcript
00:00Whenever Perfect Cadence Seal Orchestra members take stage they put on
00:04memorable performances for their audiences and themselves. The Arruka
00:08based a small conventional seal band is about nine years old and despite
00:13continuing to excel in the industry and making it to Panorama semi-finals
00:16several times over the years they have never had a place to call home. Mark
00:21Huston, assistant manager and arranger for Perfect Cadence says while the band
00:26is in a dire need of a place to call home it has never stopped them from
00:30playing and enjoying the steel pan. Huston says once upon a time the band
00:34used to practice at Bonaire Secondary School but that is no longer so since
00:38there was a change in the school's administration. Adding most of the
00:42members in the band are past and present students of Bonaire Secondary.
00:46Previous administrations before that supported the idea of a school band and
00:51so on but 2023 present administration somehow didn't support that as a matter
00:58of fact in 2022 they discontinued this CVQ pan in the class pan
01:04manufacturing program which trained students to make the instruments and by
01:092023 the band was forced to leave the school. Since then the band reached out
01:14to several stakeholders including MP for Lopeno Bonaire West Marvin Gonzalez for
01:19some assistance and is yet to receive feedback. He says that in September of
01:24last year the band did get some assistance from NUGFW which they were
01:29grateful for but now the temporary agreement the band had with the
01:33organization has come to an end. However he's hopeful the time can be
01:37extended he also praised that the assistance of the NWRHE. We got these
01:42tents these four 20 by 20 tents donated from the NWRHE we want to thank them for
01:50that as well but unfortunately they have use of it now we have to take it back
01:55you know I'm really through Mr. Justin DeFritos our band manager who was at the
02:02time the IR manager at NWRHE you know he was responsible for making this happen
02:09when the time came in his absence he died unfortunately in December. Mr.
02:15Huston says despite the many obstacles he's optimistic about finding a home
02:19soon because giving up is not and would never be an option. He adds that there
02:25are many young people in the community depending on him. I'm saying corporate
02:29Trinidad MPs anybody who has the means to assist we need the assistance now
02:38these tents in ten minutes would not be here our instruments would just be at
02:44the mercy of the elements we want to start we start with yourselves after
02:49carnival and proceeded our agenda of activities which includes again
02:55restarting the training camps in July August doing something for Easter.
