00:00The gentleman who got murdered, he came across Boothouse to get a drink and to socialize.
00:06And upon leaving, he would have walked up the street here.
00:10And to get back to the main entrance, you have to take the shortcut.
00:15This area is very dark. There's no light.
00:18And we've been clamoring for years to get light and also to get the road fixed.
00:23So the gentleman who did the act was hiding up there between the barn and the trees.
00:30And because the guy who he intended to do the act to and the foreigner looked alike,
00:40he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
00:45He stabbed them a few times.
00:47And until now, he didn't realize that he killed the wrong guy until he was apprehended.
00:52We in Castara, we don't promote these kind of things.
00:59When Tobago police responded to the murder scene,
01:03they were led to a concrete track off Deport Road, roadway by villagers,
01:08where Brown's body was observed lying motionless with a knife in his back.
01:13The body was subsequently identified by his girlfriend Ellie Peck of Roaring Port in the United States.
01:20The couple was on vacation in Tobago and was set to return to America on Thursday.
01:26Tobago police are investigating.
01:28Villagers Christopher Runsman, a guest house owner and president of the Castara Fisherfolk Association, Errol Roach, spoke to TV6 News.
01:38It's a very sad occurrence, very sad.
01:41But it should not reflect on the village as a whole, because the village is very friendly.
01:49Castara is a separate place. It has its own separate piece.
01:55So this was an isolated and unfortunate incident.
01:59This situation is a blow to Castara. It's unexpected.
02:05Not in my wildest dream, I would have thought that this could happen in Castara because of the community Castara is.
02:12You know, Castara is a community that we have a lot of returnees, tourists that come every year.
02:17And, you know, a tourist is like a family here in Castara, you know.
02:22So when something like this happens, you know, we are all shocked and in disbelief that this could have happened in Castara.
02:30The tourists we spoke to told TV6 News the murder of Mr. Brown was both shocking and unfortunate.
02:38I think as a tourist, you've got to accept these things can happen anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
02:43And we've always felt incredibly safe here in Castara. The people are so welcoming.
02:48So this is just a really unfortunate event.
02:51And, yeah, we will be back next year. We love the place, the people, you know, it's just wonderful here.
02:59So, yeah, it's sad. And my condolences to the family because really this is terrible.
03:05Yes, you're visiting from where?
03:07From the UK, yeah. And we come here, we've been coming here every year for about eight years.
03:12And you love Tobago?
03:13We love Tobago and we particularly love Castara because the people here are wonderful.
03:18Are you daunted?
03:19I think it's very sad, but I'm shocked it's happened in this community, very shocked.
03:27But it just feels so close and everybody's...
03:34I still feel incredibly safe, as daft as that might sound to lots of people.
03:40So I don't know if daunted is the word. I'm shocked, yeah.
03:44Oh, I see. But will you visit Tobago again?
03:47Absolutely, yeah. I will be booking, I would imagine, before I leave. And it will be Castara.
03:55Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
