00:00Back on home soil, the Varsha Foods North-South Under-15 Classic bowled off today at the National Cricket Center
00:06in Balmain, Coover.
00:07North batted first and mustered 158-for-8 from their 50 overs.
00:12Samir Boodoo topscored with 58, while Giovanni McKnight bagged the three wickets for 19 runs.
00:17Needing 159 to win, South Under-15s took 45.1 overs to attain their victory target, finishing on 169-for
00:26-7 with Kavid Katwaru getting 38.
00:28Marley Richards was the pick of the bowlers for North taking two wickets for five runs.
00:33Before the action though, the youngsters were treated to royalty as champion all-rounder Kyron Pollard paid a special visit
00:39to them,
00:40shared some personal experiences and offered some words of advice to the players and to their parents.
00:46I can safely tell you youngsters, I've never played Under-15 North-South Classic before.
00:51My first North-South Classic would have been on the senior team trying to make the Toronto Bagel senior team.
00:59I wasn't good like you guys before at this age.
01:01I can safely tell you that.
01:03I never represented Toronto Bagel in the Under-15 or Under-17 national tournaments.
01:11My first time representing a national team would have been in the year under-19 and onwards from there.
01:17So you guys have the opportunity to start young, gain a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge.
01:22But most importantly, I think you just need to enjoy this aspect of cricket.
01:26Because I don't want, for me personally, you don't want to take the pressures of wanting to play for Toronto
01:31Bagel and Westernies at this level.
01:33You want to learn, you want to enjoy the camaraderie of your friends, you want to listen to the match
01:38officials, you want to listen to your coaches.
01:40And then when you get that time, when you reach and get that experience, you can now take cricket more
01:46seriously than what we try to sort of encounter in terms of who needs to win and who needs to
01:51lose.
01:51Now, it's about enjoyment.
01:53And I get the opportunity to speak to the parents as well.
01:56It's about parental support and not parental pressure.
02:00All right?
02:01This is an opportunity for you to just support the youngsters.
02:03Give them the freedom to go exude their talent.
02:08Yes, education is very, very important.
02:10I'm a big believer in that as well.
02:12But don't put the unnecessary pressure on them to perform and to get selected.
