00:00Esther Kwamena says she woke up shortly after 4 a.m. to pray,
00:05only to realize that her cell phone and glasses were missing from their usual place.
00:11Moments later, she became aware of two men inside her home who then confronted her.
00:17And when I looked for my cell phone to get the time and looked for my glasses,
00:26they weren't there. Then I saw my bedroom door a little ajar.
00:34So I peeped and I saw a man by the front door.
00:42And when he saw me, he ran inside.
00:46I thought it was one, but it was two of them.
00:50And I shouted, Jesus!
00:53The masked men then ordered the elderly woman to lie on the floor,
00:59demanding that she hand over all the money she had.
01:02They said, lie down on the floor. So I lay on the floor.
01:07They tied you up?
01:08No, they didn't tie me up.
01:11And I couldn't see their face because they were bandaged up with cloth.
01:16So they opened the wardrobe door, took out the bags, put them on the bed and started sitting.
01:24They said to me, all we want is money. Money.
01:28Despite being traumatized, Ms. Kuwamina said she told the men that what they were doing was wrong.
01:36I said to them, do you all know God? They say yes.
01:42I said, and what you all are doing is wrong.
01:46God is going to punish you all.
01:49So they started taking out the money.
01:51The elderly woman said she attempted to contact the Scarborough Police Station but was unsuccessful
02:07and was instead forced to call the E-999 emergency system,
02:13which she noted still connects to Trinidad rather than Tobago.
02:17So I called Scarborough, 639-2512.
02:22Nobody responded.
02:24I called 999, that is Trinidad, and they connected them.
02:29Then I called my nephew number and he came with another police.
02:36She has since been forced to change the locks to her home, incurring unforeseen expenses.
02:42While she says that she does not fare for her life,
02:46Ms. Kuwamina remains deeply concerned about the state of affairs in her community.
02:51I feel threatened because I am living here 23 years now, this year,
03:01and it's the first time this has happened to me.
03:04Tobago police are continuing investigations with woman police constable,
03:09Superville, spearheading the inquiries.
