00:04The incident near the eastbound lane of the Beetham Highway is said to have occurred during
00:09a cleanup exercise, which Wasa says was being undertaken by another agency. It did not name
00:15the entity. However, TV6 News understands that a backhoe under the Ministry of Works and
00:20Infrastructure Cleanup Campaign, seen in this video, was undertaking works at the site during
00:26the time the pipeline ruptured. Some residents seized the opportunity to get a refreshing
00:31cool down from the sun. According to Wasa, emergency response teams were immediately deployed
00:37and the dewatering process of the lines began. Wasa's acting chief executive officer, Dane
00:42Maharaj, visited the area. He said after the dewatering is completed, the damage done to
00:48the major 30-inch booster line will be assessed. On Thursday evening, the process was still
00:53underway. As a result, pumps one and two at the El Securo Booster Station have been shut
00:58down. According to Wasa, several areas might experience disruptions to their service, including
01:04Barataria, Mova, Port of Spain, Long Circular, Woodbrook, St. James, Belmont, Cascades, St.
01:11Anne's, and some of the surrounding environs. The El Securo High Lift Station is out of operation,
01:17impacting Boundary Road and Boundary Road Extension, the Aranguas Main Road, El Securo Road,
01:24Don Miguel Road and Black River. Wasa indicates that work at the affected site is steadily advancing
01:30and materials to undertake the repair were dispatched on Thursday afternoon. The authority
01:35says it will continue to provide updates with the expectation that repair efforts will be completed
01:42by Friday at 12 noon. It's the second such incident in the area in a month. On April 6th,
01:49a leak on a 36-inch transmission pipeline occurred near the Betham Gardens development. Wasa undertook
01:56temporary works and had to commence permanent works, which began with a shutdown of the El Securo
02:01boost the station on April 11th. Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
