A teenage suspect has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Valencia. In a separate incident, a man was fatally shot by police after attacking officers with a cutlass in the capital city. 00:00Officers from the Valencia Special Operations Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department
00:05responded to a robbery report.
00:08According to police, a 45-year-old man from Valencia Old Road was accosted by four masked
00:13gunmen in the garage of his home.
00:16One of the assailants brandished a firearm and announced a hold-up.
00:19However, the victim's dog intervened, allowing him to retreat inside and secure himself.
00:25The suspect then fled with his Samsung A54 cell phone valued at $1,000.
00:31While patrolling San Pablo Road, Valencia, officers spotted a 17-year-old male emerging
00:36from the bushy areas.
00:38A search of the suspect revealed a silver and black Beretta pistol, 13 rounds of 9mm
00:43ammunition and a cell phone matching the stolen Samsung A54.
00:47The suspect was detained and police are continuing efforts to locate the other three individuals
00:52involved.
00:54In other crime news, a 21-year-old man from Aruca was fatally shot on Saturday night near
00:59his residence.
01:00Around 11.30 p.m., officers from the Aruca Police Station on Mobile Patrol were alerted
01:06to gunshots along the priority bus route near Thomas Trace.
01:10Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered Dimitri Padrat's lifeless body lying on his
01:14stomach.
01:16The police secured the area and awaited the arrival of detectives from the Region 3 Homicide
01:21Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit.
01:24Investigators found 10 spears and 9mm shells near the body.
01:28Police told TV6 that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
01:33A 27-year-old man was shot by police in downtown Port-au-Prince on Saturday afternoon after
01:38he allegedly attacked an officer with a cutlass.
01:42According to police reports, at approximately 5.10 p.m., a police constable was on duty
01:47at Independence Square near the 7-Eleven bar when he witnessed the suspect armed with
01:52a cutlass chasing another man.
01:55The man being chased appeared to have a wound on his left hand.
01:58The officer ordered the man with the cutlass to stop.
02:01Initially, the suspect ran away but then turned and, with the cutlass raised, charged at the
02:07officer.
02:08The officer drew his service pistol and fired a single round, striking the suspect in the
02:13upper left arm.
02:15The gunshot reportedly caused the magazine in the officer's gun to malfunction, scattering
02:19live rounds of ammunition in the surrounding area.
02:23The wounded suspect was apprehended with the assistance of officers from the Guard and
02:27Emergency Branch and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
02:31Both the suspect and the man he was chasing were taken to the Port-au-Prince General Hospital.
02:37Officers also recovered the scattered ammunition.
02:39Police later interviewed relatives of both men and learned that the incident stemmed
02:44from an ongoing family feud.
