00:00All right, let's get this big engine kicking as the National Footballers, well, they will
00:17kick off the first of the two friendlies against Jamaica in Montego Bay on Friday.
00:22And Jamaican-based striker Nathaniel James, who knows the Reggae Boys first-hand, spoke
00:26about the rivalry and the importance of these matches.
00:31Just a couple days to go before TNT and Jamaica renew their rivalry, and the players spent
00:36most of today in the gym and the classroom going over tactics.
00:40But one player who has direct intel on the Jamaicans is Nathaniel James, who plays in
00:45the Jamaican Premier League with Monk Pleasant.
00:47I think it's a good opportunity for us, you know, to get going under the new coach, especially
00:53since there are a lot of, you know, young players here now, you know, playing this against
00:58Jamaica.
00:59I know basically all the players on the team, I know it'll be a good challenge for us and
01:04for them as well.
01:05And I think we can use it to, you know, improve ourselves for the future.
01:09And the Lahawketa native knows very well that bragging rights are always on the line.
01:14I think Jamaicans, like Trinidadians, how they speak and how they act, Trinidad is the
01:19same as Jamaicans.
01:20So, you know, when like we see one another, it's fun, it's funny and, you know, the conversations
01:25are usually, you know, nice.
01:27But on the field, you know, it's definitely the rivalry, a lot of, you know, bragging
01:31rights, a lot of talk.
01:32So you just have to always be on top of your game to, you know, to always gain the bragging
01:37rights.
01:38While he's still a young player at 20, the former club sandals striker is willing to
01:42help players younger than him adjust to life with the national team.
01:46The two young ones, Darragh Garcia and Lindell Swin are here now to, you know, hopefully
01:50get their debut and play really well and just, you know, make their mark on the international
01:55stage.
01:56You know, I'm here to support them, you know, because I think like just a while ago I was
02:02the youngest on the team and now the other young ones, so I just feel as though I can
02:05help them because I've been trained recently and I just think it's a good opportunity for
02:09them and the team.
02:11And with a new head coach in Dwight York, James believes it's a chance for players
02:15to impress.
02:16Well, it's clear to see that he has his own idea of things, you know, so I think everyone
02:21right now is getting like their own clean slate to prove themselves, to show their worth,
02:26what they can do, how they can play and how good they really are.
02:29So I think right now everyone just needs to stay focused because this is the chance for
02:33us to, you know, prove ourselves, especially to be in such an important game, you know,
02:39qualifying for the Gunka, which is really important for us.
02:41Terence Clark, TV6 Sport.
02:44One of the young players getting his feet wet in the national team is Durrell Zum Zum
02:48Garcia and the SSFL leading goalscorer for St. Benedict's College will be hoping to
02:53make his debut against the Jamaicans.
02:56I feel good, you know, I feel happy to be on the squad and I was very excited.
03:00Well, it's always a good feeling to be a part of the national team and I always wanted
03:06this opportunity.
03:07Well, Garcia and Lindell Sweene, who are the young dynamic striking duo for San Juan Giablete,
03:13well, they both got an endorsement from Dwight York, as he said, to remind him of himself.
03:19And Garcia is seeking to prove the comparison right.
03:22Well, I mean, it's a good opportunity for me to show my talent and to show the coach,
03:27you know, so I can get more playing time to show the world.
03:30It's a special opportunity for me to work with the two coaches, the legends of Trinidad
03:34and Tobago.
03:35I'm really looking forward to putting in my best work.
