00:00Opposition leader Kamala Prasad Bissessa is doubling down on her comments regarding the
00:05Joe Biden administration.
00:07In a press release today, Prasad Bissessa goes further to ask whether her critics support
00:12the following things which occurred under Biden's administration, including but not
00:17limited to gender pronouns, gender reassignment surgery for children, sexualization and grooming
00:24of children under the guise of human rights, adult men using the same public washrooms
00:29as little girls and women, and biological men participating in women's sports.
00:35The opposition leader made her stance clear on these issues as she welcomed U.S. President
00:39Donald Trump into office, but the statements have hired local LGBT advocacy group Pride
00:46TT, which is warning the UNC that this will not secure them votes in the upcoming general
00:52elections.
00:53The first thing that I would like to ask her is to clearly define and explain what she
00:58means by woke extreme left-wing agenda.
01:02Because if we are talking about we are now going to openly disrespect and discriminate
01:07people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity, things that they have no
01:12control over, I would advise her as well as all political parties who are contesting the
01:18general election this year that this is not going to be a winning strategy.
01:23Pride TT co-founder Kennedy Merage would like the UNC to make it clear whether it is
01:28going against its own manifesto promise of upholding human rights for all.
01:34In those previous manifestos they said specifically that they were going to ensure that no discrimination
01:40would befall any person based on factors such as race and religion, someone's residence,
01:46political affiliation, and they also included sexual orientation in their previous manifestos.
01:52So I have to see, I have to ask, is it that the UNC intends to contest this general election
01:58by creating more division and discrimination against the LGBTQ plus community in Trinidad
02:04and Tobago, and if that is the stance of the political leader of that party as well as
02:09the party itself, I am not, I am fairly certain that there is going to be a significant backlash
02:16not just from the LGBTQ community but from all segments of society.
02:21Pride TT also hit back at Donald Trump's policy position that there are only two recognisable genders.
02:28There has been so much research done by gender advocates and researchers and activists who
02:34have made credible contributions and have shown that gender is a social construct that
02:40exists on a spectrum.
02:42Pride TT says the LGBT plus community deserves recognition and protection under the law.
02:49It's calling on the powers that be to take a firm position.
02:53It's a call to action to us here in Trinidad and Tobago to state unequivocally where we
02:58stand as a nation against hate and discrimination.
03:01Listen, the fact is LGBTQ people exist and we must recognise their human rights to be
03:08treated fairly, equally, and with basic respect.
