It's all about improving the body and mind, to create a healthy lifestyle for the future generation.

And the man doing so is former West Indies cricketer Samuel Badree, who uses his academy BASE as the vehicle to make it happen.

The programme restarted this weekend following a break, with many participants learning about the game of cricket in south Trinidad.

00:00Another day, another year, but the passion remains the same. Former international
00:05cricketer Samuel Badry runs an academy where different coaches work with
00:09children. The two-time T20 World Cup winner with the West Indies is the
00:13chairman of Badry's Academy of Sport Education, also known as BASE. The venue
00:18for the program is the San Fernando branch of the University of Trinidad and
00:21Tobago. This week was the start of our 2025 cycle one program. It is actually a
00:28continuation of a program that started way back in 2016 and since then every
00:34year we've grown exponentially. So typically this program takes place on a
00:39Saturday morning where we have close to 185 children coming out and
00:44participating in our sessions. This year for the first time we've had to
00:48introduce a Sunday session or a Sunday cycle based on the tremendous interest
00:52in our program. So we've instituted that so we have a group of close to 185
00:58children on a Saturday morning and now around 60 children on a Sunday morning.
01:03Many of the parents have been happy with the program. Badry can boast about the
01:08way it has been running with 90% of the children returning from one cycle to the
01:12other. So it's a year-round program catering for boys and girls ages 5 to 15.
01:18We use cricket as the vehicle for skill development but also other facets of
01:24human development such as the social domain, the intellectual domain and we
01:30also have elements of theory involved in cricket. So children when they leave our
01:33programs not only can bat and bowl and feel but also they know the laws of the
01:39game, they know the umpiring signals etc. The young ones are also pleased with the
01:43program with Zain talking about what he hopes to achieve. I want to represent my
01:48school and one day join the national team. Plus there's this young lady Avisha who is new to the camp and how much does she enjoy
01:59working with a coach? Very well I like how he teaches us and I wish he could be
02:07teaching us every day, every Sunday. The program includes financial literacy,
02:12public speaking and nutrition with the aim being to produce well-rounded
02:17individuals that are now wanting to export.
