Children are our future.

Engaging themselves in outdoor activities can help them lead a healthy lifestyle.

As such, the "I Choose Sport" programme has been taking place across the country.

On Saturday, our cameras were at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Santa Cruz, where former West Indies women's cricketer Anisa Mohammed was present.

00:00Exposing children to sport at a young age can provide lots of benefits. Such is
00:05the case with the I Choose Sport program which is currently in progress. On
00:09Saturday, these young ones were at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Santa
00:13Cruz, the venue named after the West Indies legend. While the boys and girls
00:17could be seen warming up, the sport they were getting a taste of was cricket.
00:21Also at the ground was former West Indies cricketer Anisa Mohammed who was
00:25involved in this initiative.
00:50Saturday's session completed 11 weeks of the 12-week program with a
00:55cricket festival set for October 26th. So what was the reason for choosing the
00:59Santa Cruz venue?
01:00Yeah well we know this ground was named after Brian Lara so that's one of the
01:05reasons why you know we we decided to choose this ground as you know Brian
01:09Lara is from this area not only that the Bravo Brothers is also from here. So
01:13actually one of the teams named their team for the cricket festival Lapsan
01:19Cantaro champions because of Dwayne Bravo. According to Mohammed, it's
01:25important to get children coming out to play cricket. Having said that, she
01:30touched on many of the things that they were able to learn while at the camp.
01:33In our program it's not just cricket it's also about personal development as
01:36well. So we have had during the course of the last 11 weeks we have had
01:40person coming in talking about nutrition, strength and conditioning, media
01:46sessions. So it's not just about getting them involved in sports but also
01:50learning and development as a person as well. Mohammed also sees this as an
01:55opportunity for the younger generation to be involved in outdoor activities
01:58since many in this day and age are using their phones excessively.
