00:00Speculation is mounting about the outcome of tomorrow's PNM General Council meeting,
00:06following reports of internal wrangling.
00:08Questions have arisen over the process used to select Stuart Young as interim Prime Minister,
00:14a decision expected to take effect once Dr Rowley resigns.
00:18Former PNM Minister Mariano Brown shared his perspective,
00:23emphasising the complexity of the situation.
00:26Even when that meeting is finished, there's still going to be some dust.
00:30There's going to be some hands that have to be, or hearts that have to be soothed.
00:35So this is not plain sailing at all.
00:37And anybody who thinks it is, is missing the boat.
00:41Brown further highlighted the importance of collective decision-making in leadership transitions.
00:46The bottom line is that there's more than one candidate for the political leadership.
00:50That's one.
00:51Two, it's not a gift that the Prime Minister or the current political leader can pass on.
00:58But as a bequest, it's not his personal property.
01:02Neither is the office of the Prime Minister. It's not his personal property.
01:07While the outcome may not please everyone,
01:10Mr Brown firmly believes in the power of the General Council.
01:14So you will find that that idea that the Prime Minister is going to impose
01:20will always have some pushback.
01:22They may reconcile things at the General Council.
01:24He may give an appropriate explanation.
01:26The General Council will say, OK, good, we'll agree to it.
01:30And they may not.
01:32And the General Council has the power.
01:34They even have the power to reject the political leader tomorrow.
01:38As the PNM General Council prepares for tomorrow's meeting,
01:42all eyes will be on the party's ability to navigate this critical moment
01:47in its leadership transition.
