00:00The Passat-Basasa government has aligned itself closely with the Trump administration,
00:06but with the Republicans suffering a 4454 defeat in the House elections to the Democrats,
00:12the question now arises, will TNT change its posture on foreign policy issues?
00:18I can't really say, to be very honest, because I tend to think that policy has been made in a
00:25very strange kind of way.
00:26It depends on one person and what comes in the mind of that one person.
00:30I'm not seeing a systematic, organized decision-making in such a way that sets up a long-term policy that
00:38is very clear.
00:39I see decision-making as being made and who's there and what are they thinking at the time.
00:45I'm not seeing something that is being established in the best long-term interest of the country.
00:51Dr. Gonzalez notes TNT has been closely towing U.S. President Trump's line.
00:56But he's suggesting the government reconsider its stance.
01:00We have to adjust our policy here of a strict kind of pro-Trump policy, where we're supporting everything.
01:07I see we have abstained on the vote in the UN, while the majority of countries in the world,
01:1296 of the countries in the world, have continued to support the ICC.
01:16I tend to feel that we should not have gone out there and supported this brutal killing of the fishermen
01:25and so forth.
01:26I don't agree with that militarization thing and boasting about it and talking about it.
01:30I think we are probably the only government in the hemisphere to openly come out and boast about lethal killing
01:37of fishermen and drug traffickers and so forth without due process.
01:42I don't think we should have gone there.
01:45I don't think we should have also taken that position on Cuba.
01:48We have had historically very good relations with Cuba.
01:51On Venezuela, there's not much to say about that.
01:54What has happened there is now history and to some extent it's unwinding itself.
02:04However, all things considered, Gonzalez says he does not foresee the change in the U.S. government, having any significant
02:11impact on TNT.
02:14But he does see one silver lining.
02:17We will continue to trade with the United States.
02:19We have access to the United States.
02:21We may even get better access because the new government may look to remove those tariffs that Trump imposed there,
02:28the 10 percent.
02:28I think the new government may seek to remove that, which is good, so we get better access to the
02:34U.S. market.
02:35So I don't see the U.S. as, you know, the issues of the U.S. with Donald Trump as
02:41being something that would necessarily impact negatively on us.
