00:08There were no queues at the close of polls at 6 p.m. at most polling stations, we observed.
00:16While we noted some inconsistencies in the administration of the counting process,
00:21however, we observed that polling officials followed closing and counting procedures in a transparent and professional manner.

00:34We applaud the people of Trinidad and Tobago for turning out in an elderly manner to exercise their franchise.
00:42We commend the Elections and Boundaries Commission, polling staff, political parties, police and the media
00:48for their respective roles in ensuring the successful conduct of the Elections.

01:40However, the Commonwealth Observer Group also took notes with regard to factors that might have contributed
01:47to the voter turnout yesterday.
01:50The group heard from various stakeholders it meant that there is a need to build youth confidence
01:56and participation in democratic and electoral institutions and processes.
02:02This might have contributed to low voter interest as compared to previous elections.
02:08The group recommends that measures be considered to promote greater civic participation in the electoral process
02:17by engaging with civil society groups and allowing continuous voter education and awareness.
