00:00It has been a tough journey, but he has been able to deal with the punches thrown at him.
00:07That's the story of Michael Alexander, who has been working assiduously to get back into
00:12shape following a motorcycle accident in 2021.
00:15For the 31-year-old, boxing is everything.
00:18As such, he often goes to train at the Golden Fist Boxing Club in Diego Martin.
00:22Well, basically, I have been laying low, doing therapy.
00:29Therapy was training for me as well, you know, dealing with my kids, and that's what had
00:35me going every day.
00:39And what sort of assistance do you see yourself requiring in order to get back into the ring?
00:46Well, basically, the assistance I need is just to go finish an X-surgery on my...
00:54Well, I need surgery, and after that, I will be ready to...
00:59Not ready to literally go back into the ring.
01:02I'll be training, strengthening back my muscles, my ligaments, and then I can be back out representing
01:07three red, white, and black.
01:09Finances have been an issue, but he does not let it bring him down.
01:13Instead, he looks at things in a philosophical way.
01:16Yes, I did try and look for assistance, but I mean, it was a bit difficult during the
01:22COVID time and stuff.
01:23I mean, everybody had certain things to do, but I believe I will get you very slowly,
01:29but surely, but just everything in life is patience, and you know, I'm still here.
01:36Thank God for that.
01:37When going through tough times, Alexander was not alone, as he had the support of his
01:42mom and dad, both of whom passed away last year.
01:45Added to that, there's a long-serving sport leader who's always been there for him.
01:50Only one person I know is like a father figure, and I'll be there as well on Sunday, which
01:56is the walk-in for cold on Sunday at 2 o'clock, 2 a.m.
02:01I believe.
02:02I believe it's 2 a.m.
02:03Yes, we start at Mr. Brian Lewis.
02:06He's been putting his, going his way all out to try to assist, and I've been getting
02:13there slowly but surely, just patience.
02:15And I would appreciate if, I don't know if I have to go to the Ministry of Sport or the
02:22Olympic Committee for extra assistance to fully get what I need to be done, my surgery
02:28done and I'll be alright.
02:31Can you elaborate when you're supposed to go for the surgery and what's the nature of
02:35it exactly?
02:37Right.
02:38I'm supposed to go, I haven't got a clear date, but it's this year.
02:41Basically I was to do a surgery next month or late this month, and the surgery is based
02:48on a new surgery, which is you have a pinched nerve in your brachial plexus.
02:53Alexander is a Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, plus he has a CSE silver and bronze, and in
02:592019, another bronze at Pan Am in Peru.
03:02So does he feel that the country forgot all about him after the accident?
03:06That's my thinking.
03:07Sometimes I feel like I've been left out.
03:10When I got in the accident, I was mentally broken.
03:15I feel like that's it, everything, but I always have a strong mind, I will pour that to say,
03:19you know what, I'm going to stand back on my feet, I'm going to be greater than how
03:22I was before, and I'm actually seeing it.
03:26So now I'm just being patient because the key in life is to have patience.
03:30Alexander wants to see boxing grow in TNT and is willing to provide up-and-coming young
03:34boxers with pointers so they can make it big.
