00:00The tradition lives on as after a century and more the North-South Classic
00:05is set to continue later this week. The leading local cricketers are currently
00:10in the midst of preparing for the West Indies Championship for the tournament
00:14which bowls off for the Red Force on January 29th against CCC at the
00:20Brownlara Cricket Academy in a day-night affair. By the way, the North-South
00:25Classic, ladies and gentlemen, will be played at the Brownlara Cricket Academy
00:29as a day-night affair. The four-day classic bowls off on Thursday with the
00:34first ball bowling off from 2 p.m. and while the contest has lost its edge over
00:38the years, the TTCB president is hopeful to restore its past. The standard of
00:44cricket displayed in the North-South Classic over the years merited its
00:47status of a first-class match and all those who played before the
00:52categorization was removed in 1958 deservedly earned their place
00:59in cricket history. After a lull of some years, the match was revived but never
01:04really attained the pride of place on the local cricket calendar that it
01:09previously occupied. However, with today's launch, we are optimistic that the
01:15North-South Classic will be returned to its former glory days. The task will
01:20fall on both captains as Carrie Pear will captain the North team looking for
01:24a hat-trick of wins. I would like this game to be very competitive. North has
01:30got the better of South the last two games and, you know, it's a very
01:35competitive game. We want to have it, to keep it this way. However, first-time
01:40captain Jed Gooley would be hoping to impress and return the bragging rights
01:43back to the Southland. It's a privilege to be captain of the South team and to also
01:47represent, to be a part of this North-South Classic has been a tremendous feeling.
01:52Congrats to all, to both teams that have been selected. As Carrie said, the last two years, you know, we have been
01:58defeated but I opened the chain this year so I urge the supporters to come out and
02:02support, send in numbers and may the best team win.
02:05Terence Clarke, TV6 Sport.
