The Filipino community based in T&T is known for being big when it comes to basketball and volleyball.

Our cameras met with them on Sunday at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena where they were having a whale of a time.

00:00The Filipino Community Association of Trinidad and Tobago is having a
00:03basketball and volleyball tournament. It got underway on August 4th with the next
00:07meeting on the 11th at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena. Then in September
00:11the dates will be the 15th and 22nd and the venue, Tacarigua. The purpose of this
00:16is to bring the people together as is explained by Dr. Roxanne Tantoku. The
00:21Filipino community has been here for 30 years and it has always been the mission
00:25of the Filipino community to get all the Filipinos in Trinidad together to be
00:30bonding with each other and to develop camaraderie with our fellow Trinidadians
00:36so that they will easily be how shall we acclimatize to the society here.
00:41Those who were present certainly knew how to have fun. Speaking of which there
00:46are plans to make it even more popular by adding some Trini flavor to it. Oh in
00:51the next few years we're hoping as as the tournament gets bigger and bigger
00:56and the sports day gets bigger and bigger we want to have a sort of a
01:00friendly thing with with our local people here in Trinidad yes and then
01:06develop develop up probably not just a sports thing but also probably we'll
01:14develop we have because a lot of Filipinos here cook so we will develop a
01:18sports and food so it will be a sports fest and a food fest in one. Local
01:24volleyball coach Kanae Serju fondly known as coach Perry is also famous among the
01:29Filipinos and was present at the event.
