Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather update from The Met. As we go through the
00:04
next few days, a change is in store. We finally say goodbye to the mist and murk as the area
00:10
of high pressure moves away. That gets replaced by areas of low pressure as we move towards
00:15
the New Year period. Some of these areas of low pressure will be fairly deep, so we could
00:19
see some wet and very windy weather from time to time. So, we are keeping a very close eye
00:24
on the New Year period and keep you up to date as we go through the next few days.
00:29
Back to the here and now, we are still maintaining the murky skies across many parts of England
00:34
and Wales, some mist and fog around, so some fairly poor travelling conditions in places.
00:39
The cloud may well break to the east of high ground from time to time, allowing some brief
00:43
glimmers of sunshine, but a fairly overcast afternoon for many parts of England and Wales.
00:48
So, the north Scotland, Northern Ireland, we are seeing this weak cold front move through,
00:53
so some bits and pieces of rain and then to the north of that, some clearer skies moving
00:58
in, so some late sunshine for parts of Scotland, but also the risk of a few showers. Under
01:04
the cloud, a rather cold feeling day, temperatures really struggling, potentially only up to
01:07
4 to 6 degrees in a few spots, but where we do see some bright skies across the north,
01:12
we could see highs reaching 10 or 11 degrees. Into the evening, this cold front continues
01:19
to sink its way a little bit further southward, so it will start to improve visibility across
01:24
parts of northern England and north Wales, but to the south of it, another murky night
01:28
to come, so again, if you've got any travelling plans as we go through the next 24 hours,
01:33
do allow some extra time for your journeys. And then to the north of it, another band
01:37
of rain then begins to move in across parts of Scotland, accompanied by a strengthening
01:42
wind here too. But for all of us, not a cold night by any means, temperatures not much
01:47
lower than around 3 to 5 degrees. So, we do start Sunday off on another murky note across
01:53
many parts of England and Wales, but I'm hopeful as the day goes on, brighter skies developing
01:58
across many parts, but especially so for parts of Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. It
02:03
may well take its time across the very far south-eastern corner, but even here, I think
02:08
come the afternoon, it should be feeling much brighter. For other overcasts, come the afternoon
02:13
for Northern Ireland and Northern England, and that's ahead of this band of rain, which
02:17
will really park itself up across parts of Scotland. Some colder air starting to tap
02:22
in here too, so that may well start to turn to snow across the higher ground here. But
02:27
for most of us, with a little bit more brightness around, feeling less cold, could see highs
02:31
reaching 10 to 12 degrees in a few spots. And then looking ahead towards the New Year
02:37
period, unfortunately it looks like it's going to be an unsettled start to 2025, areas of
02:42
low pressure moving in. Some of these could potentially bring some wet and very windy
02:46
weather from time to time, so we are keeping a close eye on things. And with colder air
02:50
also close by, we could see the risk of some snow, especially across the north. So, if
02:55
you do have any travel plans over the New Year period, stay up to date with the latest
02:59
warnings on our website. You can also check out your local forecast there too. But from
03:04
me for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
