00:00Hi there, good morning. Storm Dara is on the way later today and into the weekend.

00:05It wasn't the lively weather we experienced last night. That was a different low which

00:10is now moving away and it's a bright start to the day for many of us. It's chilly but

00:14actually for much of the country, sunny skies through the morning. A few showers for the

00:19north and west of Scotland and then through the afternoon things deteriorate rapidly.

00:23In the west, heavy rain and increasing winds arrive, especially for Northern Ireland, Western

00:28Scotland and then later on for parts of Wales in the south west. As that moves in, actually

00:33temperatures will begin to rise, so 12C in the far south west but remaining in the mid

00:38to high single figures elsewhere, so feeling chilly for much of the day, especially as

00:43it turns wetter into the afternoon. This is Storm Dara. Initially, we've got the heavy

00:48and persistent rain moving in and then as the rain moves through overnight, we've got

00:54blustery showers and further clumps of rain pushing in. But the strengthening winds really

01:00arrive early Saturday and continue to build up as we go through the day on Saturday. Higher

01:08pressure to the west is squeezing up against Dara as Dara is moving through and the ISA

01:15bars will continue to tighten leading to increasingly strong winds and widespread gales. So, initially

01:23on Friday night, we've got wet weather moving in and strengthening winds. The rain falling

01:28as snow above 300m for Scotland and then as the main band of rain moves through, we start

01:33Saturday with further wet weather pushing into parts of Western England, Wales, Northern

01:38Ireland and Scotland and it's in these areas where there's the risk of disruption from

01:42rain because of widely 30mm and in some places more than 60mm of rain, particularly Northern

01:48Ireland and Wales. It's a less chilly start to the day, of course, because of all the

01:52wet and windy weather sweeping in but nevertheless, it's going to be very unpleasant with rain

01:57or showers and strengthening winds in many places. Increasingly, it's the wind that is

02:02the main concern on Saturday itself, particularly for Western parts of the country, South West

02:09Scotland, Northern Ireland, Western England and Wales and that's going to make it feel

02:14cold with that wind increasingly coming from the north as the day plays out. Here's a look

02:20at the wind in more detail. As Storm Dara crosses the UK on Saturday, widely we can

02:26expect gales and for Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, much of England

02:31and Wales, wind gusts will exceed 60mph and there's the risk for some parts of Northern

02:37Ireland, South West Scotland, Wales and Western England of wind gusts of 70mph inland and

02:4580 or more around exposed coasts and headlands. So, that kind of wind can cause significant

02:52disruption, power cuts as well as damage to buildings, transport disruption and dangerous

02:57conditions around coastal areas with big waves and the potential for flying debris. That's

03:02why there's an amber warning in force at the time of recording but these warnings will

03:06continue to be under review over the next couple of days. It is worth, as always, staying
