Transcript
00:00As the second and final week of negotiations start for COP29, there is a concern that not
00:07enough progress is being had.
00:10I'm also concerned that the parties are not moving towards each other quickly enough.
00:17It's time for them to move faster.
00:21This week we will welcome ministers from around the world as the negotiations reach their
00:27final stage.
00:31Politicians have the power to reach a fair and ambitious deal.
00:36They must deliver on this responsibility.
00:40His sentiments were echoed by the Secretary General.
00:43There are still challenges ahead there.
00:47The bottom line is we're a long way from halving global emissions this decade.
00:53The progress at COP29 is absolutely essential.
00:58No reason has been given for Argentina withdrawing its negotiators from COP29, but President
01:04Babayev is urging G20 countries when they meet in Brazil today and tomorrow to show
01:10their leadership.
01:12They account for 85% of global GDP and 80% of emissions.
01:19Their leadership is essential to making progress on all pillars of the Paris Agreement from
01:25finance to mitigation and adaptation.
01:30We cannot succeed without them and the world is waiting to hear from them.
01:37We urge them to use a G20 meeting to send a positive signal of their commitment to addressing
01:44the climate crisis.
01:47We want them to provide clear mandates to deliver at COP29.
01:52The President reminded countries that climate finance is not charity.
