00:00President of the Trinidad and Tobago Copyright Collection Organization, Anston Isaac, said there needs to be a structural change that protects and empowers local acts, particularly in state-sponsored events.
00:12He proposed the inclusion of separate pay categories for non-local acts.
00:16A media release from the organization suggests that the Ministry of Culture and Community Development and other stakeholders in the creative arts industry create a local artist fee benchmark framework.
00:26It advises that the Ministry of Culture, in consultation with established event promoters and artist representatives, immediately establish minimum payment standards for local performers.
00:38It is also recommending that every large-scale event should include a minimum of 60% local performance content with clear rules about payment parity.
00:49Additionally, it wants a performer protection clause in contracts to guarantee payment within a defined period.
00:56That story takes us to tonight's PeopleMeter.
