00:00It's now time for a look at tonight's weather forecast with Jhuzat.
00:05Thank you Disha.
00:06Good evening Trinidad and Tobago.
00:08Did you listen to me on Friday when I told you brace for this weekend?
00:12If you did, kudos to you.
00:14If not, then hard lucks and I hope you didn't get too soaked.
00:17Now before we get into today's weather, let's recap what happened over this weekend.
00:22On Saturday, it was mostly calm but we did see some showers along the East-West Corridor.
00:27Central and South Trinidad were clear and sunny, but by Sunday, that's when all the
00:31real drama started.
00:33We got hit with a yellow level storm alert and it wasn't just a few raindrops, we saw
00:38heavy rain, thunder and even flooding in some areas.
00:42South Trinidad had a little rain in the morning, but it was really in Central, East and West
00:47that things went completely off track in the afternoon.
00:50The San Juan Laventille area, parts of Port of Spain including South Quay and Lady Young
00:55Road, were all underwater and some of that water still hasn't fully drained.
01:00So if you got caught driving through some of that water, I hope you were safe.
01:04Today we saw a bit of everything.
01:06In the West, we started out with sunshine but by the afternoon, that rain came pouring
01:10down with thunder adding to the drama and even some parts of Maraval facing severe flooding.
01:16It was also reported that a man was swept away in the East Dry River on Piccadilly Street
01:21due to all the heavy rains after falling in.
01:24In the East, it was mostly cloudy near the mountains this morning and by midday, we got
01:28some of thunder too with the occasional shower.
01:31Down South, there was a mix of cloudy skies with a bit of sunshine but rain has been popping
01:36up here and there.
01:38And over in Central, well, it was hot.
01:40No surprises there.
01:42Despite the rain, temperatures are still high and we're looking at around 31 degrees Celsius
01:46in Trinidad and 30 in Tobago.
01:49Now looking ahead into tonight, I suggest you keep those blankets closed as temperatures
01:54will drop to 24 in Trinidad and 25 in Tobago.
01:59Now you might be wondering to yourself, what's causing all of this?
02:02Well, today an induced low-level trough is hanging around along with some moisture coming
02:07up from the Southeast.
02:09This means heading into tomorrow, we're seeing some partly cloudy skies with some breaks
02:13of sunshine but light to moderate showers are expected to continue.
02:17There's also a medium chance we could see some isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms,
02:22especially as the afternoon heats up, particularly in Western and Central Trinidad in the afternoon.
02:28In spite of this, temperatures will be 32 in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago.
02:34For my early risers, here's a heads up.
02:36Tomorrow you'll be able to catch that sunrise at 6.03 in Trinidad and 6.01 in Tobago.
02:41Sunset will be at 5.39 in Trinidad and 5.37 in Tobago.
02:46Now, here's a look at our tide times.
03:00Regionally, things are not looking that much better.
03:03Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados were placed under flash flood warnings this past weekend.
03:09Grenada also suffered some flooding last night.
03:12This is largely in part due to a prefrontal trough that's passing over the Northeast Caribbean,
03:17particularly Barbuda that's causing periodic heavy showers and thunderstorms.
03:22In some international news, Typhoon Pepito made landfall in the Philippines yesterday,
03:26bringing with it heavy rain and powerful winds to a region still recovering from previous storms.
03:31While no casualties were reported, over 500 homes were left destroyed.
03:36Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.
