00:00More than £31 million has been put forward to improve the energy efficiency of homes
00:05across Northumberland. The money is to be split between private properties and social
00:09housing. The Warm Homes Grant will improve around 900 private homes at an estimated cost
00:14of £15.6 million and the rest will be spent on social housing, but it will only be available
00:19for households with an income of less than £36,000 a year.
00:24Landlords will receive 100% of the funding for their first property, then they will be
00:28entitled to 50% funding for any additional houses.
00:32Councillor Colin Horncastle of Northumberland County Council has said,
00:35The Government has targets that all fuel-poor homes should be EPCC by 2030. This is the
00:40best and easiest way to help people in any sort of home to increase their energy insulation
00:45and help those in fuel poverty.
00:47Fuel poverty is when a household spends a large portion of its income on keeping its
00:51home at a reasonable temperature. In England, a household is considered to be in fuel poverty
00:56if they live in a property with an energy efficiency rating of D and below.
