00:00It's freezing cold, but how energy efficient are our homes right now?
00:04Millions of homeowners believe their property is energy efficient, despite a huge number
00:08of UK households having an EPC below a C. But just what measures are we taking to make
00:14our properties more energy robust?
00:16Energy is so expensive. I think the more money we can save, the better, and I think the first
00:23step to doing that is learning more about how the system works.
00:29No, I don't know what EPC rating is. It's the thing when you buy a house and the different
00:34colours are there. Energy, power, something. It says how much you really need to spend on
00:44energy to meet your daily needs.
00:47We switch off lights when there's nobody in the room and make sure that all the heating
00:52and all that is off when there's no one in there.
00:54We had a smart meter in the store about six months ago and everyone ran around the house
00:57going, turn it off! I can see something going!
00:58My wife cooking and using the oven a lot.
01:01Heating is probably where we're the most guilty. I think that's where most people are going
01:06to be most guilty, especially when it's been so cold it's been so cold.
01:08I would not know what my EPC rating was.
01:16Well, there is a lot of red, some energy is escaping.
01:22I think that's the C because there's a lot of red on those windows and I think a lot of
01:26he's escaping from them.
01:28It's nowhere close to A. That's my only understanding from the heat map.
01:34I think we have to be more vigilant about how much energy we're wasting. Otherwise, it's
01:38just more coppers out of our pockets.
01:40I will definitely consider the EPC rating of a house before buying one.
01:45My top tip to save energy at home would be to wear a lot of big jumpers.
01:48Using a hot water bottle, that's a really good tip.
01:52Air fryer, they use these left pictures here and then up.
01:54Get used to putting on socks and a warm jumper in the house. That would be my tip, seriously.
01:59I'll see you next time.
02:02I'll see you next time.
02:02Bye.
