00:00A trailer truck belonging to carnival band Bego Limers which participated in
00:05the October Carnival was burnt in what is a suspected arson attack. TV6 News
00:11spoke with head of the Tobago October Carnival Association Dexter Sandy about
00:16the incident. It's really unfortunate that something like that would happen a
00:21carnival all right but I really do hope that the authorities are able to find
00:26whoever the persons are and really resolve it because as any band leader
00:31waking up on a morning and hearing that your trailer would have been succumbed
00:36to this kind of damage it could really dampen the spirits but from my knowledge
00:41all bands were on the road yesterday so they would have found a solution and they
00:45were on the road yesterday. Despite the trailer truck incident Mr. Sandy boasted
00:50of a successful third edition of Tobago's October Carnival. I must say
00:55that from all accounts across all the bands that I interacted with they said
00:59it was a success their masqueraders really enjoyed it and Tobago Carnival we
01:05are now I would say ranking with all international carnivals. Asked whether
01:11Tobago should have two carnivals Mr. Sandy said both are separate and apart
01:16and both carnivals are important to the island. The essence of the two carnivals
01:22now National Carnival is National Carnival what Tobago may need to do is
01:27tweak what we do for National Carnival we don't have to duplicate what happens
01:32in October but National Carnival is really an opportunity for us to work
01:39with the kids and the kiddies carnival is an opportunity for bands to work on
01:45different aspects of production and presentation and the traditional mass the
01:51old-time mass all those other elements because the culture is very rich and
01:56strong and that's what National Carnival really needs to present. October is a
02:00different model October we really looking at the tourism aspect of carnival.
02:06However Mr. Sandy is calling for earlier marketing of Tobago by the THA and more
02:13predictable seats on the air bridge by Caribbean Airlines. Outside of the
02:18marketing now we're looking at the connectivity really getting these people
02:22to be able to land on the island with predictability of a seat whether it be
02:29by boat or by plane from a very early stage so those are the two main things I
02:33think that we need to really put emphasis on come December. Tourism
02:39Secretary Tashia Boris is leaving Tobago with a contingent from the Division of
02:44Tourism and the Chief Secretary Farley Augustine to attend the World Travel
02:49Market from November 1st to 8th. Ms. Boris told a media briefing on Monday
02:55that Tobago's 2025 October Carnival would be promoted at the World Travel
03:01Market. Elizabeth Williams TV6 News
