A 9-million dollar allocation for Tobago Carnival. This from CEO of the Tobago Festivals Commission Limited, Kern Cowan.
The Carnival is schuedled for next weekend and would mark the third edition of the October staging. Mr. Cowan says he wants visitors to escape to paradise. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00So this year's 2024 allocation is just about $9 million.
00:06Now the good thing about that is that we were able to secure sponsorship to the tune of $2.5 million.
00:12So with an allocation of $9 million and a support from a sponsor of $2 million,
00:18we are looking forward to having an excellent Carnival this year.
00:23With advertising of Tobago's October Carnival previously done nationally,
00:28branding of the festival throughout the country began on Monday.
00:32The hype is there for who's looking for the hype, right?
00:35We are rolling out our branding as we speak.
00:39As of today, our branding starts at both A&R Robinson, Piaco Airport, and all through Tobago.
00:45So by the end of the week, Tobago will be fully covered with all Carnival branding
00:50at all our roundabouts and on the streets.
00:53You will see the energy of Carnival as it is.
00:56Now everything has its timing and its place.
00:59Mr. Cowan says additional flights have been added by Caribbean Airlines on the air bridge
01:04and the sailings on the sea bridge have been enhanced.
01:08We have been negotiating with Cal since the beginning.
01:11While they have added flights, of course, those go quickly.
01:15Everybody is trying to get to Tobago.
01:18So we are doing as much as we can as it pertains to the air and the sea bridge.
01:23As much as we can, we are doing all of the negotiations at the highest level possible
01:28to ensure that we get as much people on the island as things go along.
01:32So you just have to keep checking, you just have to keep doing your part as best as you can.
01:37The hotels in particular, they are recording high numbers of occupancies already.
01:43In some cases, more than 85%.
01:46Some have already been fully 100% booked out.
01:50Mr. Cowan has this message for the people of Tobago.
01:54Expect great things in the coming weeks.
01:58Expect great things across the board.
02:01What I want Tobago to know is that we are in this thing together.
02:04We are here to make a product that is fully destination Tobago
02:10and is to drive all of us to the next level.
02:14We are looking for all of our support as Tobagonians, as those who are into the mass
02:20and those who are not, that we achieve our business purpose,
02:23that we achieve our holistic vibe and energy coming out of what Tobago can become.
02:29The third edition of Tobago's October Carnival runs from October 25th to 27th.
02:36However, the various FETs start this week.
