00:00Energy Minister Stuart Young is not budging from his explanation in Parliament as to why
00:05the oilfields workers' trade union-owned Patriotic Company failed in its second bid
00:11to acquire the mothballed state-owned oil refinery in Pointer Pier, despite Patriotic's
00:16efforts to defend the integrity of its bid.
00:21In a statement on his official Facebook page, Minister Young referred to his contribution
00:26to the 2025 budget debate in the House of Representatives on Friday, where he produced
00:32what he identified as a fake document purporting to be a wire transfer to a local bank for
00:38US $1.5 billion.
00:41On Saturday, Patriotic issued a statement in response to Minister Young and said it
00:46did not receive any communication or indication from either the Valuation Committee or Scotiabank
00:51International as to the unsustainability of Patriotic's preferred financial partner.
00:58Patriotic said they remain confident that their preferred financier can stand the scrutiny
01:03of any due diligence process and that the company invites same.
01:08In maintaining his assertion that Patriotic produced a fake document purporting to be
01:13a wire transfer to a local bank for US $1.5 billion, Minister Young said due diligence
01:19confirmed that no such wire transfer was received by the local bank to the account
01:25of Patriotic Energies.
01:27The Energy Minister said on Saturday Patriotic Energies did not refute the fact that they
01:32submitted a fake wire transfer document, but instead they introduced the concept of having
01:39a preferred financial partner.
01:42Minister Young further said it is clear and obvious that Patriotic Energies is avoiding
01:45responding to what he insists is the fact of the fake document that they submitted.
01:52Patriotic said they remain confident that they met all the requirements and have presented
01:57the best proposal for and on behalf of the workers and the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
02:03Minister Young said in response that Patriotic should be asked whether there was a document
02:08submitted by them that indicated a purported wire transfer of US $1.5 billion and if so,
02:15where's the money or was the document fake?
