One year after taking office, Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal reflects on the local oil and natural gas sectors which are key sources of revenue for this country.

00:00Energy Minister Dr. Rudal Munilal tells TV6 News the government is very proud of the work it has been able
00:06to accomplish in 12 short months within the energy sector.
00:11In response to a question from TV6 News on the one-year anniversary of the UNC and its coalition of
00:16interests winning the 2025 general election, Dr. Munilal said the government's major accomplishment during this period relates to addressing hydrocarbon
00:26production challenges.
00:27The PNM, in its first year in opposition since last year's general election, has claimed that the UNC administration is
00:35taking credit for work it did in the energy sector when it led the government for almost 10 years.
00:41Energy Minister Munilal said improvements in hydrocarbon production relate directly to increased revenue for Trinidad and Tobago as he declared
00:49that for crude oil, the UNC-led government has been able to realize an increase of approximately 5,000 barrels
00:56per day.
00:56And for natural gas, which is critical to Trinidad and Tobago's downstream sectors, Dr. Munilal said the government has, quote,
01:04arrested the decline in production.
01:06These production-related successes have been realized through targeted interventions and discussions with upstream producers by this administration, end quote.
01:17Minister Munilal added that looking ahead for the next year, the government is keen to have new major projects commence
01:23execution and progress to first production.
01:26During the UNC's Congress and report to the nation on Saturday, Prime Minister Kamala Pusad-Bassassar referred to increases in
01:32natural gas and oil production.

02:44Minister Munilal told TV6 News that, quote,
02:47key projects which are expected online in 2027 would be the Manatee Plus, Ginger and Aphrodite projects.
02:53These projects would aim to increase our gas production levels beyond those that we have stabilized at, end quote.
03:00Dr. Munilal further said in the year ahead, the government looks forward to the sanctioning and commencement of additional projects
03:06to secure the nation's hydrocarbon supply for the medium term,
03:10something he said the government is very excited about.
