00:11Proposals for new parking charges were dropped by the local authority in 2022
00:15due to intense opposition. The local authority previously proposed bringing
00:19in the parking charges across areas like New Brighton, West Kirby and Brombrough,
00:24but these were dropped after the threat of a legal challenge.
00:27At an Environment and Transport Committee meeting on July 15,
00:30a budget report said a parking charging policy was needed later this year to
00:34help balance the local authority's budget and close a £300,000 shortfall.
00:39Twenty-two off-street car parks are expected to have charges brought in.
00:42As for how much people will be charged,
00:43Wirral is planning to bring in the following charges from October 28.
00:48£1.20 for up to one hour £2.40 for up to two hours
00:52£3.60 for up to three hours £4.80 for up to four hours
00:56and £6 for up to four hours
