00:06council leaders approved increases in city and town car parks. In Durham, off-street rates
00:12will go up by 30 pence an hour and on-street parking by 15 pence. Other towns, including
00:17Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Chesterless Street and Seam, will see 10 pence rises per
00:23hour. Daily permit charges will increase by 4 pence, the first hike since 2015. Council
00:29officials describe the changes as modest, reflecting operational costs and highlight free alternatives
00:34nearby. The rise is expected to raise around £400,000 for the council, supporting local
