Two tropical systems could bring impacts to Hawaii

Tropical Storm Hone and Hurricane Gilma could both pose risks to Hawaii.

00:00we've got a lot going on in the Pacific. A lot of the time we really focus our tropical efforts

00:04into the Atlantic Basin and we're keeping an eye on that but that's quiet for now thanks to dry air

00:09but in the Pacific we have two separate storms that may prove to be impactful for our friends

00:14in Hawaii. So if you're tuning in from Hawaii later this weekend you're going to see impacts

00:18from tropical storm Hone and also into next week there is some potential in a weaker state for

00:25Gilma to bring you trouble. Now Gilma is a powerful hurricane now it'll weaken as it moves farther

00:29west. There's also likelihood of development farther east here of Gilma but a quick look at

00:34the satellite estimates of where rain is falling across the Pacific right now. We do have some

00:40concerns here in some areas here you can see three general zones of development here and we're

00:47dealing with some rain. This is tied to Hone there. Here is Gilma pretty mature hurricane and then

00:54this other tropical wave moving west that will likely organize and strengthen. So as we look

00:59ahead at the impacts here is the latest on Hone. This morning 45 mile per hour max sustained winds

01:05not a whole lot of deep convection it does not look impressive at the moment but it may still

01:10strengthen to a hurricane. In the meantime we're going to be watching this move into the area near

01:14Hawaii this weekend. We've amped up our rainfall forecast for the east facing slopes of the big

01:20island. Up in the high ground the east facing slopes 8 to 12 inches of rain.

01:25Gilma may weaken before reaching the area later next week.
