The Olympic may have been a disaster...but there is a pot of gold on the horizon.

That's the belief of triple World Championship gold medalist and American Sprint record holder Tyson Gay who is in the country to give advice to T&T's upcoming sprinters.

Gay who is the joint second fastest man ever in the history of the 100 metres, is part of an Elite Athletics Training Camp being put on by World Championship gold and silver medalist Machel Cedenio and the Ministry of Sport.

00:00Sourcing young talent and nurturing athletes. That was the objective of a
00:04collaborative effort between TNT 400 meter runner Marshall Sedeno and the
00:09Ministry of Sport to host an elite track and field training camp at Skinner Park
00:14in San Fernando. So the objective for this was to create a space where athletes
00:18can feel what it feels like to be in a professional environment. You know we
00:22want to make these younger athletes get in the mindset of okay I am an athlete
00:28now but I want to aspire to be a professional athlete. So we need to start
00:32creating professional environments so these athletes can not only feel like a professional athlete
00:37but look like a professional athlete as well. So we just wanted to create a space here in Skinner Park
00:40and we accomplished it. Sedeno indicated that the initiative targets
00:45children ages 11 to 18 as they selected kids from clubs and communities that
00:50took part in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. It was overwhelmed. We originally catered
00:57for 100 athletes but we had like 125 athletes turn out and I couldn't turn down any
01:03athletes. You know when athletes come out here yesterday to register and they
01:05weren't on the list we still facilitated them in the best way that we can because
01:09you know athletes coming out here you know they got up early they had a good
01:13breakfast to come out here to anything sports. We couldn't turn them down so we
01:15facilitated the best way that we can and we're just having a good time.
01:19Decorated United States sprinter Tyson Gay was the main draw in the initiative
01:24and he was pleased to be part of it. I'm here helping out my share with the camp has
01:28really been an honor. I spoke with some of the kids and I really feel like
01:32they're a great bunch of kids that have like minds and they all want to reach
01:36their full potential and get to the next level so I'm just here to give some words
01:40of encouragement and show them what I went through to get to where I got.
01:43He believes that this program has everything to make it a successful event.
01:46Yeah I really feel that this event has provided everything they need. They've
01:50gotten some mental stimulation, physical exercise and he's really covered all the
01:55bases to have a successful program. Gay added there is talent in TNT. Yes sir
02:01especially I've been a one or two like myself I really have an eye for some
02:05talent and these young kids I really feel like they've adapted quickly to
02:09some of the tips I've given them and they really mature fast in a sense of
02:14talent so I think they have a lot of talent here and this is the next
02:19generation. The event drew several sponsors and the Cedeno is hoping it is
02:24the first of more events to come.
