What a week has gone. Medals and accolades the talking point for most of it. Jereem Richards has been in the conversation for his silver medal performance at the World Championships. For some it came as a surprise after he missed the 200 meter national record at the National Championships. However, he showed there's more to good sprinting than just the time on a clock.

00:00Before Jareem Richards left for the World Championships in Tokyo, he set his sights on breaking the 200-meter world record set by Atto Boldan.
00:09He fell short of the 19.77 target. Was he saving himself for the World Championships?
00:15No, I definitely wasn't playing possum. I came down to China and Tobago expecting to run 19 seconds.
00:21I had a 19.86 season best this year and I was aiming to go faster to break the national record but sadly I didn't.
00:32What do you think was key to you with tapering before the World Championship?
00:36My coach knew exactly what the plan was to be ready at World Championships and around that time is when I started to produce faster times in the 400 meters.
00:48The coach had a really good plan of tapering towards the World Championships this year.
00:52Richard, who is a World Indoor Champion, a CSE gold medalist and now a silver medalist at the World Championships, still does not fully believe he gets the respect he deserves.
01:02Now that you've gotten a silver medal at the World Championships, that you are officially one of the best athletes in the world.
01:09I don't know if I get that respect. I feel like respect varies depends on who it is and what they're looking for, what qualities they look for in athletes.
01:17I think I'm already respected by my internal circle. They know how hard I work. They know the hard times that I would have gone through to be able to get to this point.
01:27So, you know, it doesn't even really matter to me honestly about if other people respect or not.
01:32However, he knows the significance of his achievements and how it matches up against the best in the world.
01:37Well, then, yeah, in that case, I think definitely it in a sense solidifies as one of the top 400 meter runners and 200.
01:47Nobody has done it, the double like that in a while. You know, so I'm just grateful to God, you know, to be able to be one of those in a sense legendary names.
01:56Despite being in the form of his life, Richards intends to rest ahead of the 2026 season.
02:01He's spending time explaining to athletes the importance of picking themselves on teams rather than relying on relay teams.
02:08Like these individuals here from Simplex Athletics Club under the coaching of Gunness Passat.
02:13My coaches tell me don't let the highs get too high and don't let the lows get too low.
02:17It means when you win, enjoy it in the moment, but don't think that.
02:22Don't carry that win three days down the road. You win, enjoy it in the moment and that is it.
