00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we are talking about threads
00:09versus filler.
00:11I've had some questions coming to my email lately and I wanted to clear a few things
00:14up.
00:15So where threads and filler can cross over and achieve some similar results, they do
00:21have very different functions.
00:23Threads unlike filler don't cause vascular occlusion and threads do build natural collagen
00:29over time.
00:31Initially when you first put threads in, you'll have an inflammatory response that gives you
00:35kind of some fullness or some volume restoration, which is in most cases just that initial inflammation.
00:41You do get some immediate improvement with threads, but not quite the same instant results
00:46you get with filler.
00:48Threads do take some time to build that natural collagen, but once that collagen is built,
00:53it creates a nice volume and support within the skin.
00:57The collagen that is built over time lasts longer than most fillers.
01:01In the description box below you guys, I will list the threads that I like to keep on hand
01:06and where I use them and I'll also list the fillers that I use and where on the face I
01:11use them.
01:12Now, from a DIY perspective, I really love threads because they are quite low risk.
01:18There is some discomfort after the thread procedure for a few days until those threads
01:23settle into the skin.
01:25I always find that a warm compress held over the area helps to soften the thread and helps
01:30it integrate into the tissue.
01:32Now there is a little bit of discomfort after a filler procedure as well, and both procedures
01:36do have the potential for some bruising.
01:39Unlike threads, which are pretty low risk, filler, when not done correctly, can cause
01:44a vascular occlusion.
01:45Of all the facial rejuvenation procedures, filler is definitely one not to jump into
01:50unless you really know the risks and how to mitigate those risks.
01:53Now where filler really shines is at sculpting the face.
01:57For example, I've done threads in the cheek area to create some support, but when you
02:01really want to have some good contour and some shape, doing filler right down to the
02:06bone, the periosteum in the lateral part of the cheek, really helps to lift the face and
02:12restore some lost volume in the midface or cheek area.
02:16It's tough to get that kind of sculpting with threads.
02:19Having said that, threads do an incredible job along the jawline in keeping the jawline
02:25sharp and helping to ward off the jowling.
02:28I find lips do much better with filler than with threads, however I've done both, and
02:33you do build some natural collagen in the lips with threads.
02:37So if you are someone who is new or concerned about the vascular occlusion risks, threads
02:42are the way to go in that area.
02:44Where you do have to wait for the collagen to be built with threads, outside of that
02:48initial slight improvement that you get immediately after threads, filler shines in that you get
02:53that instant gratification and you get immediate results.
02:57Now one of the things to keep in mind with filler is it also has inflammation just like
03:01the threads, so never judge your filler for the first week after because you are seeing
03:06maybe a little bit of inflammatory response from the filler.
03:10I always wait a week or so before I really decide if I like the filler or not.
03:14Thinking back to my first filler treatment, which was lips, I thought they were so overdone
03:19and it was really just a half a syringe of filler.
03:23So there was hardly any filler in my lips, it was just that immediate swelling that made
03:28me think that it was too much.
03:30Overall I feel like the combination of threads and filler are something that I'll always
03:36use.
03:37I love the structural support you get in the skin from threads, and I love the sculpting
03:42and volumizing you can get, particularly in the cheeks and lips, with filler.
03:47I feel like filler you can have a little bit more artistry and control, and with threads
03:52you have more long-term structural support and natural collagen building.
03:57I do think that threads will give you a more natural result, especially if you do it repeatedly
04:03over time, and with filler it would be easy to get a little heavy-handed or go too far
04:08with it.
04:09It's a matter of finessing that perfect ratio of filler so that you don't look overdone.
04:14If I could only do one or the other, that would be a hard choice for me to make because
04:19I love both threads and filler, but I think for the overall potential, if I was forced
04:24to choose one or the other, I would choose threads.
04:27I really don't want to have to make that choice, but just hypothetically speaking.
04:31I also think threads are fantastic in the temple area for hollowing in the temple.
04:36I'm due to do this again, but I think it works really well, and it also gives long-lasting
04:41results and it's very safe.
04:43Again, you guys, I just wanted to clear that up because I've had a few questions in my
04:46email, and I will list down below the threads I keep on hand, where I use them, and also
04:52the fillers I keep on hand and where I use those as well.
