London: Should parents be charged for taking kids out of school?

We ask Londoners if parents should be charged for taking their kids out of school during term time, for holidays.

00:06I guess it depends how long they do it for, like if they take a couple of days at the end of term

00:13when there's not much happening, I think that is a bit harsh.

00:16But if they take them out for maybe a week or so, then yeah, I don't think that's fair.

00:20It's not fair on the children. When they come back they're going to be behind

00:24and then they take attention from other children.

00:28So yeah, I think they have to do something about it, otherwise everybody would be doing it, right?

00:33Not necessarily charged, I don't think that's necessarily the best, even if I don't agree

00:38it's always the best thing to be doing, I don't know if that's the best way to punish people necessarily.

00:44Off the top of my head, I feel like it's a good idea to disincentivise, you know,

00:51truancy excessively, but I guess trying to, you know, give parents a little bit of leeway seems like a good idea.
