An out-of-control inferno tore through suburban Brisbane this afternoon, destroying three homes. Three people have been taken to the hospital. Dozens of firefighters and police were at the scene on Grange Street, and residents are being warned that thick smoke is still affecting the area.

00:16which is a terrible situation.

00:24Low water supply hindered efforts.

00:28and one house has had significant damage to its western wall.
00:32Thick smoke rose over the city.
00:34Looked out and it was well, well alight.
00:37Just flames, black smoke everywhere.
00:40Crews faced challenging conditions.
00:43Difficult conditions, very steep incline for the street
00:46plus an adverse wind that was blowing the fire from one house to the next.
00:50Three people were rushed to hospital.
00:52One firefighter has burns, another suffered chest pains.
00:56The fire was sparked by a resident who spilled fuel in a driveway,
00:59which then caught alight.
01:01He called triple zero and sustained significant burns.
01:04Back of the car caught on fire as well
01:06and then the owner was still running back and forth
01:08trying to sort of kick the rags and everything out of the way
01:11and he burned his legs sort of in the process.
01:14It took hours to bring under control.
01:16Authorities are now urging residents to stay inside to avoid heavy smoke.
