House fire leaves two people in critical condition in hospital

A seven-year-old boy and his father are fighting for life in hospital after escaping a house fire in Melbourne’s north-west.

00:00I'm here on a quiet suburban street in Hillside in Melbourne's northwest where a family has been

00:07left fighting for their life after a devastating house fire took hold of their family home just

00:13behind me late last night. Now fire authorities say the fire broke out at around 9.30 forcing the

00:19family inside to flee. Unfortunately a father aged in his 30s along with a seven-year-old boy

00:25sustained serious life-threatening injuries in that blaze and were rushed to hospital

00:29a mother and a son aged nine were also rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

00:35luckily a little girl a toddler escaped the house unharmed. Now we've spoken to neighbours here in

00:43this street and they've told us that the family family is a really lovely family and that the

00:48inside of their home was really destroyed in that blaze. Here's what one neighbour had to say a short

00:53time ago. I came out here and over there there was just screaming people everywhere my neighbours were

01:03severely hurt it was chaos it was really really scary and look we just want to help them and make

01:10sure that they're okay. Now this fire isn't being treated as suspicious but fire crews and police remain

01:16at the scene here this morning as they work towards trying to understand the cause of that blaze.
