00:00:00And a very special good morning Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the world.
00:00:17I'm Arlan Hopkins and as always, welcome to The Morning Edition.
00:00:20It's Thursday, June 27th.
00:00:22Thank you very much for joining us.
00:00:24Yeah, we do appreciate it.
00:00:25How was your night?
00:00:26I hope that it was good and that you're safe and sound with us this morning.
00:00:30There was some cricket last night, not so Sharla?
00:00:34Yeah, give us the results.
00:00:36Give us the results.
00:00:37No, I'm calling your name.
00:00:38So if you're giving some wrong information, we'll have to blame you.
00:00:41So who played last night?
00:00:44Afghanistan and South Africa.
00:00:48South Africa won.
00:00:49They're moving on to the finals.
00:00:50All right.
00:00:51Breaking news for you from our producer this morning, Sharla, yeah?
00:00:56Yeah.
00:00:57I know.
00:00:58That's why I did that.
00:00:59All right.
00:01:00Let's check out to see what's happening in the Daily Express today.
00:01:04Nurse shot dead, ambushed by gunmen outside Princess Town Health Facility, killed.
00:01:11Nurse Sadhana Gangu, a beauty pageant contestant, was gunned down near her workplace in Princess
00:01:15Town yesterday afternoon.
00:01:17Let's get to some of the details.
00:01:19Nurse stalked, gunned down.
00:01:22Behind the smile and charisma of nurse and beauty pageant contestant Sadhana Gangu lay
00:01:27the pain of a woman who was marked for death.
00:01:30Gangu was stalked and gunned down moments after she exited her workplace at the Princess
00:01:35Town District Health Facility yesterday afternoon.
00:01:39She was 44 years old.
00:01:41All right.
00:01:42So I suspect investigations are continuing in connection with that matter and a very
00:01:47interesting story in the newspaper this morning.
00:01:50Man sentenced for 2018 rape of wife.
00:01:53Judge, this is according to a judge, domestic violence offenses way too common in Trinidad
00:01:58and Tobago.
00:02:00Intimate partner violence is an issue that is becoming more and more pervasive in Trinidad
00:02:05and Tobago, and that's according to Justice Lisa Ramsoumer Hines, and she said that on
00:02:10Tuesday.
00:02:11All right.
00:02:12We're moving on to some sport now.
00:02:14Blame the prep.
00:02:15Now listen to this story, yeah?
00:02:17Listen to this.
00:02:18Blame the prep.
00:02:19Ex-selector Butcher, West Indies buildup caused World Cup failure.
00:02:25Fail to prepare.
00:02:26Prepare to fail.
00:02:27Poor preparation, according to recently released West Indies selector Roland Butcher, is the
00:02:32main reason the regional team is now out of the T20 World Cup.
00:02:37West Indies exited the tournament currently being played in the Caribbean early Monday,
00:02:42following a three-wicket defeat to South Africa in Antigua.
00:02:46So let me ask something, right?
00:02:48So judging as to what Mr. Butcher is saying, was that a feeling by a number of persons
00:02:58who were close to the team?
00:03:00Because let me tell you something.
00:03:01If the team was doing well, then we would not have heard about these claims, right?
00:03:05But now that the team is out of the tournament, we're hearing about all of this.
00:03:09So again, you need to hold people accountable as to what has transpired here.
00:03:14All right?
00:03:15So when you thought that things were improving for the West Indies cricket team, you know,
00:03:22there remain deep-rooted problems.
00:03:24All right?
00:03:25So it's time to remind you of a Trinbago Unised feature.
00:03:27Remember to participate, WhatsApp your videos or images to 737-3778.
00:03:32What do we have for our viewers this morning?
00:03:33Put them up.
00:03:34All right?
00:03:35That's a beautiful picture.
00:03:36Yeah?
00:03:37Have you all taken, you know, there are tours, right, where you can take a ride?
00:03:44Yeah.
00:03:45Oh, you have done it?
00:03:47Oh, Charlotte says she has done it several times.
00:03:52But if you would have...
00:03:54But my question to you, if you went there once or twice, why would you want to go several
00:03:58times?
00:03:59I'm just...
00:04:00I'm just saying.
00:04:01I'm just saying.
00:04:02All right.
00:04:03So you have your coffee, you have your tea.
00:04:07We're coming back, everybody.
00:04:08We're coming back.
00:04:10We'll be in the time of reflection and fasting.
00:04:13Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:04:14Right now, we in the mood for some hard ghetto blasting.
00:04:17Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:04:18So go ahead and probably confront.
00:04:21Don't you know it's your due?
00:04:23Oh, oh, oh.
00:04:24Go ahead and let the spirit of...
00:04:29Hey, Toby, look.
00:04:30I got you your dog chow.

00:05:55No.
00:06:07No.
00:06:34Let's take a selfie.
00:06:37It looking good, boy.
00:06:39I'm posting it online.
00:06:43Hey.
00:06:44I thought you said you went to the beach with your parents.
00:06:47Who's you?
00:06:48It's me, Larry.
00:06:51From online.
00:07:07So you have big plans for the year, eh?
00:07:10A trip in July, birthday in November, and fet after fet this carnival.
00:07:16But you know what'll stop plans?
00:07:19A $22,500 fine.
00:07:23You know what else could really stop your plans?
00:07:27Five years imprisonment and suspension on your license for three years.
00:07:32Don't drink and drive.
00:07:37You need maths for this.
00:07:39But what must I study, daddy, to get into politics?
00:07:44Son, where can you be in the PNM party?
00:07:50And your heart?
00:07:52All right.
00:07:53So welcome back, everyone.
00:07:54So first on the agenda this morning, we do have some politics for you
00:07:57and the ongoing controversy within the United National Congress.
00:08:00You would remember that last week, the member of parliament for Komuto Manzanilla,
00:08:03You would remember that last week, the member of parliament for Komuto Manzanilla,
00:08:06Dr. Rai Ragbir, voted with the government in favor of the whistleblower legislation,
00:08:11saying he decided to do so because he wanted to put the country first.
00:08:15Dr. Ragbir has since said he expects to be expelled from the UNC
00:08:19as his vote was not in sync with his party's position.
00:08:23The UNC has yet to take a decision on Dr. Ragbir's political future.
00:08:28So joining us to discuss the issue this morning is political analyst
00:08:31Dr. Indira Rampersad.
00:08:33Dr. Rampersad, thank you very much for joining us this morning.
00:08:37Good morning, madame.
00:08:38Good morning, viewers.
00:08:39Yeah, Dr. Rampersad, always good to speak with you.
00:08:41Well, Dr. Rampersad, like you and I'm sure other people,
00:08:44we have been looking at what has been happening within the United National Congress
00:08:48over the past few weeks.
00:08:50This situation with Dr. Rai Ragbir,
00:08:54it's the latest salvo, I suspect we can put it that way,
00:08:58from persons who are not, I think the word may be comfortable,
00:09:03as to what is happening within the UNC.
00:09:06How do you see things, Dr. Rampersad?
00:09:10Well, I think Dr. Ragbir made a decisive statement
00:09:16that he is ready to go, actually.
00:09:19He is ready to go.
00:09:20He claims it's a conscience vote on that whistleblowing legislation.
00:09:28But it was the first time he took a conscience vote
00:09:31since he's been in the UNC.
00:09:34It's the first time and it comes directly in the week of an internal election,
00:09:38which he lost with his other colleagues there.
00:09:41So I think he was prepared to go.
00:09:44He is self-sufficient and as much as self-employed,
00:09:48he has his own medical practice.
00:09:50So I think he's all pretty much ready to go.
00:09:56In terms of the repercussions of what he has done,
00:10:01it is somewhat a breach of what is known as collective responsibility in politics.
00:10:06So you have individual responsibility,
00:10:09which is that individuals are expected to comport themselves in a certain way,
00:10:13you know, not supposed to get involved in corrupt activities,
00:10:17financial improprieties.
00:10:19And there is collective, there's a doctrine of collective responsibility,
00:10:23where you are really supposed to,
00:10:26and I don't want to put it as to the party line,
00:10:28but you're supposed to go along with the party.
00:10:31Because even if, as he claims, it was a conscience vote,
00:10:36he did it because he believed in this whistleblowing legislation,
00:10:40his vote was not required.
00:10:42His vote was not required because,
00:10:45and this is what I found actually more interesting,
00:10:48it was a vote that initially required a third majority,
00:10:53but no longer required that.
00:10:55At the time it was taken,
00:10:57the government had changed it for a simple majority.
00:10:59The legality of that is another issue,
00:11:02but it was a simple majority vote,
00:11:04which, you know, his support was not needed
00:11:07for the vote, for the legislation,
00:11:09for the bill to be passed.
00:11:11Yeah, Dr. Rappasad, you say he's ready to go.
00:11:15Is it then you believe that he is ready to face the consequences,
00:11:20whatever they may be, the political consequences?
00:11:24Well, face the consequences in as much as,
00:11:27if they oust him, it doesn't matter.
00:11:29He doesn't care.
00:11:31He expects it, right?
00:11:33He expects it because, you know,
00:11:35you don't breach that doctrine of collective responsibility
00:11:38in the Westminster political system.
00:11:40There will be repercussions.
00:11:42There are always repercussions, serious repercussions.
00:11:45Now the others fought until the election,
00:11:48but they voted with the party, you know, for the bill.
00:11:52So in terms of them having breached anything per se,
00:11:56we can't say that.
00:11:58We can't say that they breached any doctrine
00:12:02as he did in voting along with the PNM.
00:12:06So it's our system of governance, you know.
00:12:10So some people said it's brave
00:12:12and it's the right thing to do
00:12:14and it's the ethical thing to do.
00:12:16But you see, the politics,
00:12:18and you know, it was rightly said,
00:12:20does carry a morality of its own,
00:12:22but it also carries certain expected behaviour,
00:12:26certain norms, certain patterns of behaviour
00:12:29that when a bill comes before you in the parliament,
00:12:33you vote along your party lines.
00:12:37So then is it safe to say that,
00:12:40judging from what you were saying, Dr Rampersad,
00:12:42was Dr Ragbir right?
00:12:44Was he wrong in what he did?
00:12:48Well, I don't want to use the term right and wrong.
00:12:50Those are loaded terms, you know.
00:12:54What I have said is that
00:12:56there was a breach of collective responsibility.
00:12:59The opposition leader can actually invoke
00:13:02the crossing of the floor act as well
00:13:04to oust them from the party.
00:13:06And by extension,
00:13:08you have to call a by-election
00:13:10in Komoto Manzanilla,
00:13:12which is his constituency.
00:13:14And we saw, I think I saw
00:13:16a host of constituents
00:13:18not being very pleased
00:13:20with this, with him at all,
00:13:22with his move.
00:13:24And naturally, because they voted him
00:13:26on the UNC banner,
00:13:28not to go and vote for the PNM.
00:13:30And I don't think many
00:13:32are buying this whole argument
00:13:34about you believe in this
00:13:36whistleblowing legislation.
00:13:38You never ever voted
00:13:40in all your years at the UNC.
00:13:42You never ever voted
00:13:44against the party
00:13:46and suddenly there is a conscious vote.
00:13:48So it raises a lot of doubts
00:13:50and a lot of questions.
00:13:52Do you think that
00:13:54supporters of the United National Congress,
00:13:56they should be concerned
00:13:58as to what we have
00:14:00been seeing and what
00:14:02they have been hearing
00:14:04coming from within the party?
00:14:07Of course, you had the internal elections
00:14:09and you had the slate led by
00:14:11the
00:14:13MP
00:14:15for Mayaro,
00:14:17Rushton Parry.
00:14:19And they would have said a number of things.
00:14:21You heard the opposition leader,
00:14:23Mrs. Kamala Prasad Bisesa,
00:14:25and she led another slate,
00:14:27the star team.
00:14:29Of course, they came out victorious.
00:14:31So the question again is,
00:14:33should members of the party
00:14:35be concerned as to what
00:14:37they have been seeing and hearing
00:14:39coming from both sides?
00:14:41Well, there will
00:14:43always be concern
00:14:45from party supporters
00:14:47when there are internal rallies in their party.
00:14:49There will be concerns.
00:14:51There would be perceptions
00:14:53of divisiveness and there is
00:14:55a lack of cohesion
00:14:57that they don't have their act together.
00:14:59However, whether
00:15:01they should be concerned
00:15:03about the implications of the internal rallies.
00:15:05Keep in mind, it was
00:15:07an internal election.
00:15:09You would have.
00:15:11It's a fight.
00:15:13It's a battle.
00:15:15It's a competition.
00:15:17It's a competition.
00:15:19Whether it's a healthy competition or an unhealthy one
00:15:21is to be analysed.
00:15:23But you would expect
00:15:25some mudslinging.
00:15:27You would expect some
00:15:29ill-speaking of each other.
00:15:31It goes on in election campaigns all the time.
00:15:33It's unfortunate when
00:15:35it is within the same party
00:15:37as opposed to against parties.
00:15:39The implications
00:15:41are, well, I think
00:15:43the general election, we're not hearing
00:15:45a date call yet.
00:15:47There is still time for that.
00:15:49The last election was called in August
00:15:512020.
00:15:53You have more than a year
00:15:55for that election before it is
00:15:57constitutionally due.
00:15:59That does not mean that the Prime Minister
00:16:01cannot call it early.
00:16:03Mr. Manning called elections early
00:16:05twice.
00:16:07That is also in the cards
00:16:09that the government can call it early.
00:16:11They have been given some indications
00:16:13and hints of this.
00:16:15Dr. Rowley talked about
00:16:17going to select
00:16:19candidates for some
00:16:21UNC seats from about
00:16:23five or six UNC seats, I heard him mention
00:16:25as well.
00:16:28The party
00:16:30would need to get into
00:16:32general election
00:16:34mode.
00:16:36They have bounced
00:16:38back in terms of a party
00:16:40after internal elections.
00:16:42It is bruising
00:16:44but it is not
00:16:46going to
00:16:48kill the party altogether.
00:16:50They have
00:16:52to pull all the
00:16:54desperate strands together.
00:16:56The opposition may even have to consider
00:16:58a coalition because the history of
00:17:00opposition politics here is
00:17:02coalition politics to get into power.
00:17:04This point
00:17:06is to get all
00:17:08cards
00:17:10on deck.
00:17:12You want to get everybody together
00:17:14that you think you can benefit
00:17:16from in the general
00:17:18election because that should
00:17:20be the focus at this point.
00:17:22I think they will try
00:17:24to put on a very strong, brave
00:17:26and cohesive front.
00:17:28Albeit that there is
00:17:30this issue with
00:17:32Dr. Ragbir
00:17:34and there was a
00:17:36bitter internal election
00:17:38when you face all of that.
00:17:40A day in politics
00:17:42is like a lifetime.
00:17:44By next week
00:17:46that would start to dissipate
00:17:48if not already.
00:17:50They have to now start to
00:17:52kill the party going forward
00:17:54to try to get
00:17:56all hands on board to be able to
00:17:58win a general election
00:18:00against BNN.
00:18:02You feel that
00:18:04they can put aside their differences
00:18:06and move on but I want to put it
00:18:08in the context, Dr. Rampersad
00:18:10and if we can get
00:18:12back to the internal elections
00:18:14because some people would have seen
00:18:16it as a very simple thing.
00:18:18Of course, Mr. Parry and his
00:18:20they called for the internal elections
00:18:22but there was the view that
00:18:24the internal elections had to come
00:18:26and it had to come in June.
00:18:28So there was the feeling
00:18:30why couldn't they wait
00:18:34and in fact
00:18:36were there more
00:18:38deep seated problems
00:18:40within the party
00:18:42and that's why
00:18:44they attempted to deal
00:18:46with the internal elections
00:18:49in this way because as I said
00:18:51some people saw it as a simple thing
00:18:53the party had to call the election
00:18:55the elections we knew were coming
00:18:57so why all of this hullabaloo?
00:19:01Well, I think they misunderstood
00:19:03their own party
00:19:05roots initially
00:19:07so I think because I was
00:19:09following their discourse
00:19:11and I think they didn't realize that
00:19:13there would not be an election
00:19:15for the leader
00:19:17there was some disenchantment
00:19:19with the leader, I think
00:19:21and that is what they wanted
00:19:23they wanted a leadership election
00:19:25as well
00:19:27so they thought that the NatEx election
00:19:29will also include a leadership election
00:19:31which it has at times
00:19:33so there were times when the national executive elections
00:19:35that is what we are calling NatEx here
00:19:37included the leadership elections
00:19:39and there were other times
00:19:41when it didn't
00:19:43there was a time when
00:19:45Ramesh Lawrence Mirage
00:19:47and Carlos John went against
00:19:49they went up for
00:19:51deputy political leader
00:19:53against each other
00:19:55Mr. Pandey was not part of that
00:19:57as leader of the opposition
00:19:59his position was not up for grabs
00:20:01so this is a similar scenario
00:20:03that would have happened
00:20:05so I think they didn't realize
00:20:07because I was listening to them
00:20:09and they were talking about that
00:20:11leadership election
00:20:13and as it turned out
00:20:15there was no need for a leadership election
00:20:17or there was no need for that
00:20:19post to be contested
00:20:21and so they had
00:20:23the national executive elections
00:20:25which they have always held
00:20:27and they have always held on time
00:20:29you know there is some provision
00:20:31to probably hold it early
00:20:33and you know
00:20:35sometimes probably a little late
00:20:37not too late
00:20:39but I think that was always in the cards
00:20:41and they held its internal elections
00:20:43but
00:20:45they were of the opinion
00:20:47that it was not going to be called
00:20:49and that they have scored a phenomenal victory
00:20:51by getting the elections called
00:20:53I am not so sure
00:20:55that that was any victory
00:20:57I think the elections were going to be called
00:20:59what I think they didn't realize
00:21:01initially
00:21:03when they were calling for it
00:21:05is that the opposition leader was not going to be contested
00:21:07in that election
00:21:10Following the results of the internal elections
00:21:12we did an interview with Mr. Parry
00:21:14and I was asking him
00:21:16about the executive
00:21:18how he feels about this new executive
00:21:20and does he believe that this executive
00:21:22can take the party to victory
00:21:24in the next general election
00:21:26and he was telling me at that time
00:21:28that he believes that this is really
00:21:30the same old executive
00:21:32and I want to ask this question
00:21:36if what Mr. Parry
00:21:38is saying is true
00:21:40that it's really the same executive
00:21:42is the party
00:21:44in a better position
00:21:46now to win
00:21:48the next general election
00:21:50and is the political
00:21:52leader, Mrs. Kamala Prasad
00:21:54does she remain politically
00:21:56attractive
00:22:00Well, she's commanded the majority
00:22:02of votes
00:22:04in the internal elections
00:22:06some 77%
00:22:08as opposed to 23%
00:22:10and when I say she, her star team
00:22:12the team that she endorsed
00:22:14she's also
00:22:16tied in a very recent
00:22:18local government election
00:22:20was running neck to neck
00:22:22and she overwhelmingly
00:22:24got the popular vote as well
00:22:26now that is not
00:22:28a clear win
00:22:30certainly it's not a clear win
00:22:32but you know
00:22:34so far
00:22:36we've not been able to see an
00:22:38alternative
00:22:40a viable alternative
00:22:42so they have presented themselves
00:22:44as alternatives, although there was no
00:22:46competition for the opposition
00:22:48leader's post, they have presented themselves
00:22:50as viable alternatives
00:22:52for the national
00:22:54executive, but let's come back
00:22:56to this national executive
00:22:58so they run party affairs
00:23:00basically, they're in charge of
00:23:02party affairs
00:23:04but for a general election
00:23:06you know
00:23:08it takes more than a national executive
00:23:10there are a lot of other factors
00:23:12that play, one is
00:23:14the boundaries
00:23:16and moving or pulling divisions
00:23:18and the extent to which that can impact
00:23:20marginal constituencies
00:23:22in fact I think it's primary
00:23:24it's a primary factor
00:23:26in winning a general election
00:23:28you have to win the marginal
00:23:31constituencies and that boundary
00:23:33is important, so if pulling
00:23:35divisions were moved that are going to impact
00:23:37that, that can have an
00:23:39impact, they are a repercussion
00:23:41the other factor
00:23:43is funding
00:23:45you have to be able to attract tremendous
00:23:47funding because some say
00:23:49look where the money is going and you see who is
00:23:51going to win the election
00:23:53and a general election
00:23:55but the general election costs
00:23:57a lot more millions of dollars
00:23:59they cost millions of dollars
00:24:01so are you going to attract financiers
00:24:03money is very important
00:24:05then the campaign
00:24:07the campaign
00:24:09what is said in the hustings
00:24:11what is not said in the hustings
00:24:13and how your speeches in the campaign
00:24:15platform can reach
00:24:17to the ordinary voter
00:24:19that is also important
00:24:21and then of course
00:24:23the whole electoral machinery
00:24:25in the run up to the elections
00:24:27how well you can bring out voters
00:24:29on that day
00:24:31what extent can you go
00:24:33to the nook and cranny of these marginal
00:24:35constituencies in particular
00:24:37where the elections are generally won
00:24:39and bring them out on election day
00:24:41so there are so many factors
00:24:43and after the dust
00:24:45has settled on the internal wrangling
00:24:47I think the party
00:24:49is now going to be on
00:24:51election mode
00:24:53so they are going to be
00:24:55focusing on election
00:24:57they had started some campaign
00:24:59on crime
00:25:01there was a series of forums
00:25:03on crime which is a burning issue
00:25:05there is now issue of the
00:25:07economy and 9 billion dollar
00:25:09deficit in the budget
00:25:11unemployment, rising prices
00:25:13food prices, trade union
00:25:15settlement and Marlon we are seeing
00:25:17now trade union
00:25:19and this is Mr Rouge
00:25:21and that
00:25:23actually rumbling
00:25:25as well on labour day
00:25:27and threatening to
00:25:29support the United National
00:25:31Congress in
00:25:33a general election
00:25:35a lot of that also has to do with the sale
00:25:37of the refinery
00:25:39I want to get
00:25:41a perspective on the refinery and this new
00:25:43controversy that has come up
00:25:45what do you think about this
00:25:47support by the trade union
00:25:49movement for the UNC
00:25:52in the run up for the next
00:25:54general election
00:25:56well I see it as a
00:25:58coalition force
00:26:00a potential coalition force
00:26:02so some argue that
00:26:04labour doesn't
00:26:06really impact on
00:26:08election results, I have heard other
00:26:10colleagues saying that
00:26:12but you see if you form a coalition
00:26:14coalitions tend to have a
00:26:16ripple effect
00:26:18throughout the country
00:26:20and if you give that semblance
00:26:22of national unity
00:26:24of all inclusion
00:26:26inclusiveness
00:26:28it has a ripple effect
00:26:30so you attract a trade union
00:26:32to you
00:26:34some of them may not vote
00:26:36who are traditional PNM voters
00:26:38may not vote the PNM
00:26:40some of them may go over to the UNC
00:26:42some may not vote at all
00:26:44so you have all kinds of dynamics
00:26:46at play with coalition politics
00:26:48it brings a whole new flavour
00:26:50to the politics
00:26:52and it's not only the trade union
00:26:54you would want to attract
00:26:56by forging that
00:26:58unity
00:27:00with the trade union movement
00:27:02you can also attract
00:27:04other forces
00:27:06that are willing to come forward
00:27:08so I saw that sort of
00:27:10olive branch and conciliatory
00:27:12tone
00:27:14on Monday night
00:27:16for the National Executive
00:27:18coming from the opposition
00:27:20leader
00:27:22ready to welcome everyone
00:27:24and she talked about all the past
00:27:26they had but they got back
00:27:28together and Mr. Warner
00:27:30coming back, leaving and coming back
00:27:32and you had a series of other people
00:27:34with that happening
00:27:36so there is always room for healing
00:27:38which is the way to go
00:27:40if you want to win an election
00:27:42if you are in opposition
00:27:44while it is very important
00:27:46to make that call
00:27:48for inclusiveness
00:27:50and national unity
00:27:52to secure
00:27:54a coalition
00:27:56or an accommodation
00:27:58meaning that
00:28:00you don't fight each other
00:28:02in particular constituencies
00:28:04Dr. Rampersad, let's get to this
00:28:06new controversy
00:28:08that has happened
00:28:10in relation to the Petrotrain
00:28:13refinery. Of course recently
00:28:15the Prime Minister met with
00:28:17Naveen Jindal
00:28:19the chairman of
00:28:21Jindal Steel and Power
00:28:23the opposition is
00:28:25questioning
00:28:27the talks, questioning this
00:28:29meeting with the Prime Minister
00:28:31and the billionaire
00:28:33Mr. Naveen Jindal
00:28:35and he is facing corruption charges
00:28:37in India
00:28:39What is your perspective Dr. Rampersad?
00:28:41Well it is not just the opposition
00:28:43that is questioning
00:28:45it is also the trade union
00:28:47and also the people
00:28:49because we have seen a lot of views
00:28:51coming from the public on this
00:28:53and I think there is reason for concern
00:28:55the individual is under
00:28:57corruption charges in India
00:28:59for some deal
00:29:01some deal that was cut
00:29:03and some coal initiative
00:29:05there
00:29:07and Dr. Rowley says he did not know
00:29:09now
00:29:11you know you are the Prime Minister
00:29:13you have gone
00:29:15you have courted these business persons
00:29:17there is nothing wrong in courting business persons
00:29:19there is absolutely nothing wrong
00:29:21in trying to secure foreign direct
00:29:23investment
00:29:25but there is a but
00:29:27you have to ensure
00:29:29that those you are courting
00:29:31are ethical
00:29:33are not involved in corruption
00:29:35and that the deal
00:29:37that you are going to strike
00:29:39whatever arrangements
00:29:41whatever financial arrangements
00:29:43come out of that
00:29:45if any should be above board
00:29:47and beyond scrutiny
00:29:49the opposition is asking directly
00:29:51because the opposition has that platform
00:29:53but there are many citizens
00:29:55who are also asking the question
00:29:57and citizens of this country
00:29:59have a right to know
00:30:01the citizens have a right to know
00:30:03because they are taxpayers
00:30:05this country has been embroiled
00:30:07in controversy
00:30:09for a long time
00:30:11because a lot of unemployment
00:30:13resulted in us having to
00:30:15buy refined oil
00:30:17you know even for our own use
00:30:19and so
00:30:21the other dimension to it now
00:30:23is a link to Venezuela
00:30:25and Mr. Jindal
00:30:27was also there
00:30:29so he seemed to be somewhat
00:30:31what we would say ubiquitous
00:30:34and was actually
00:30:36in Venezuela
00:30:38sometime in April this year
00:30:40securing an arrangement
00:30:42so what the opposition leader
00:30:44has done and maybe they've done
00:30:46their research
00:30:48it's information that we need to know
00:30:50that there shouldn't be speculation
00:30:52because this is our national
00:30:54patrimony
00:30:56if taxpayers money are involved
00:30:58every citizen of the country has a right
00:31:00to know
00:31:02one of the things we never know
00:31:04is what are the terms and conditions
00:31:06of the contracts
00:31:08that are involved
00:31:10in these foreign direct
00:31:12investment deals
00:31:14what are the terms and conditions
00:31:16the population needs to know
00:31:18there is Freedom of Information Act
00:31:20in which they can also seek
00:31:22that kind of information
00:31:24may or may not get it
00:31:26and sometimes they claim that
00:31:28they are non-disclosure clauses
00:31:30which are China
00:31:32but that is not good enough
00:31:34the population is vigilant
00:31:36the population wants to know
00:31:38the citizens have a right to know
00:31:40and as much as they are taxpayers
00:31:42and they are citizens of this country
00:31:44they have a right to know exactly
00:31:46what is going on
00:31:48well yesterday the Prime Minister
00:31:50responded to some of the criticisms
00:31:52and he said the same people who criticize the government
00:31:54for not attracting foreign investment
00:31:56are the very people who are seeking
00:31:58from investing in Trinidad and Tobago
00:32:00that's according to the Prime Minister
00:32:02he said we of the PNM are accustomed
00:32:04to that kind of opposition
00:32:06and we will not be dissuaded
00:32:08there has not been a single initiative in this country
00:32:10of any consequence
00:32:12which has been advanced by the PNM
00:32:14which has not been resisted by a faction
00:32:16of the population
00:32:18whether it was PAYE, Free Education
00:32:20UTC or NIB
00:32:22yes
00:32:24and you see this
00:32:26they attempt to deflect
00:32:28they are asking questions
00:32:30the opposition is asking
00:32:32but the people are also asking
00:32:34and the population has a right to know
00:32:36so to deflect like that
00:32:38and I heard comments about a member of the party
00:32:40I think it was the Chief Whip Mr David Lee
00:32:42being involved
00:32:44in some kind of charges
00:32:46and all that
00:32:48but you see Mr David Lee did not
00:32:50they refined we belong to the people
00:32:52of Trinidad and Tobago
00:32:55this is a controversial issue
00:32:57this is not just the opposition's
00:32:59issue
00:33:01this is the population's
00:33:03concern
00:33:05so as we know it's long standing
00:33:07I just mentioned that the controversy is long standing
00:33:09at one time trade union movement
00:33:11Mr Roger and his team wanted to purchase it
00:33:13they were not allowed
00:33:15we did not hear what went on there exactly
00:33:17so there is going to be
00:33:19a lot of scrutiny
00:33:21and the scrutiny is legitimate
00:33:23regardless of what the Prime Minister says
00:33:25and how he tries to deflect
00:33:27and you know they are trying to undermine
00:33:29the corruption charges
00:33:31I heard Minister Paula Goopy-Scoon
00:33:33saying that
00:33:35you always have these legal
00:33:37issues and you know
00:33:39trying to make it sound as if it's no big deal
00:33:41it is a big deal
00:33:43when it involves
00:33:45the country's assets
00:33:47when the assets belong
00:33:49to the people
00:33:51the people have a right to question
00:33:53and the people have a right to get
00:33:55answers
00:33:57so that I would support
00:33:59any scrutiny
00:34:01on any state enterprise
00:34:03any state initiative
00:34:05any state arrangement that would involve
00:34:07the assets of the country
00:34:09Dr Rampersad I just have about maybe
00:34:11one minute or two
00:34:13but as you look at the next few months
00:34:15and the run up to the next
00:34:17general elections
00:34:19what are the main issues politically?
00:34:23Well I did allude to some
00:34:25I think crime remains
00:34:27a number one issue
00:34:29in the country
00:34:31so that definitely
00:34:33has to be addressed
00:34:35the country cannot continue like this
00:34:37and I'm not going to go into that discourse
00:34:39it's spent
00:34:41there is also the potential
00:34:43and looming ahead
00:34:45property tax
00:34:47they've already been playing that
00:34:49before the internal
00:34:51they got distracted with the internal election
00:34:53but that was another issue
00:34:55that was on the agenda
00:34:57and if the government calls another election
00:34:59it may very well be to implement that
00:35:01as soon as possible
00:35:03there is also
00:35:05the $9 billion deficit
00:35:07so it's a state of the economy
00:35:09accompanied by rising
00:35:11unemployment and high prices
00:35:13and rising food, fuel
00:35:16transportation costs
00:35:18which the average
00:35:20citizen is just
00:35:22struggling to make ends meet
00:35:24and a big one
00:35:26is the trade union settlement
00:35:28and I cannot not wear my trade union
00:35:30cap here this morning my lord
00:35:32because you know
00:35:34several trade unions have not accepted
00:35:36the 4% and therefore
00:35:38their followers
00:35:40are going to be thinking twice about
00:35:42supporting a government that is throwing
00:35:444% and 4% at them
00:35:46whereas it is being proposed
00:35:48all kinds of 60, 70 and 80%
00:35:50for government officials
00:35:52Dr Rampersad it's always a pleasure speaking with you
00:35:54thank you very much for joining us
00:35:56this morning we do appreciate it
00:35:58bye for now

00:39:01Our next guest says he liked that song too bad, yeah?
00:39:09So there's a webinar this evening, all right?
00:39:12The topic is Parenting in the Caribbean, a faith-based response.
00:39:18My next guest, Pastor Clive Doughton.
00:39:20Pastor Doughton, it's always a pleasure to have you here.
00:39:23It's always a pleasure.
00:39:24When I got the call, I said, yes, I will come tomorrow morning.
00:39:27It's TV6.
00:39:28Yeah.
00:39:29Their wish is my command.
00:39:30So when they called me, well, you know, my department is public affairs and religious
00:39:36liberty.
00:39:37Yeah.
00:39:38And we have had, I thank Professor Green from the University of Trinidad and Tobago in a
00:39:43big way, and his team.
00:39:45But we have a monthly webinar.
00:39:47The first webinar dealing with the part of public affairs, and that is the issue of crime
00:39:53in the Caribbean, a faith-based response.
00:39:56What is the church doing?
00:39:57What is religion doing?
00:39:59The second webinar was lifestyle, NCDs in the Caribbean, non-communicable diseases,
00:40:05a faith-based response.
00:40:07And tonight, the hot, hot issue, I listened to Dr. Rampersad, issue of crime, I mean,
00:40:14and you have to say family.
00:40:15As you say crime, you could shout family, because, you know, we have intergenerational
00:40:19stuff here.
00:40:20We have grandparents in crime in one family, parents in crime, and grandchildren in crime.
00:40:24You have 10-year-olds cutting cocaine, and 14-year-olds who are assistant gang leaders
00:40:29in the school, to the adult community gang leaders, so the issue of parenting.
00:40:34And I want to say a word on that.
00:40:37David Fields, who is an internationally renowned family life therapist, he talked about three
00:40:43kinds of family, the bonded family, the ruling family, and the chaotic family.
00:40:48A lot of families are chaotic, no boundaries, no principles, no values, and many of the
00:40:56young people are growing up in loveless and godless homes.
00:40:59When Kyle was killed last year, I had adopted Kyle.
00:41:02I don't have any children of my own, but he was from the Tanapuna hotspot, and we had
00:41:08a relationship with the entire family.
00:41:10It's about family, and eventually, he was shot in his eyes, all right, in the same Tanapuna
00:41:15that he had loved, because he had come out of the gang story, and he was shot and killed.
00:41:21So you have the chaotic family, nobody really in charge, and then the ruling family, when
00:41:27somebody is too much in charge, that ruling family is where one person is the boss, and
00:41:31the rest are like slaves.
00:41:33They have, they call it rough and tough.
00:41:37Then you have the bonded family.
00:41:39The bonded family is the family where the independence is equal, the dependence is mutual,
00:41:45and the obligation is reciprocal.
00:41:47What that means is there's a high level of reciprocity and flexibility.
00:41:51People accept their responsibility.
00:41:54At the same time, there's no dictatorship like in the ruling family, all right?
00:41:58You know, women's libers are very hostile towards a fellow called Paul in the Bible,
00:42:04you know, because they feel he elevates the male above the female.
00:42:08They don't really do that, but anyhow.
00:42:10So the bonded family is the family that has a family altar, and they have a family council
00:42:16on a weekly basis, and they love each other, all right?
00:42:19That's perhaps taken straight out of the model of the Garden of Eden.
00:42:23But then you have so many variations, Marlon, until you have the visiting father, you have
00:42:30the bisexual parent now.
00:42:32There's so many, and you have families that are a kind of what I call mosaic, where there
00:42:40are really no parents, but people have adopted these folks.
00:42:43I recall a case I was dealing with up in Laventille there, where the guy was adopted because the
00:42:50parents had disappeared, essentially disappeared.
00:42:54So you have what is called a disappearing parent, all right?
00:42:58Had disappeared, and he was there, and the grandparents wanted to heal because they weren't
00:43:03healing.
00:43:04He was the object of the division in the home, but we dealt with that and pulled the family
00:43:08together.
00:43:09So it's about family.
00:43:10And then I want to tell you something.
00:43:11You have the nation as a family, and as a listener, Dr. Rampersad, you know, we must
00:43:16talk more about the nation as a family.
00:43:18Let me tell you something.
00:43:20I met Elie Zakoura the last election, the Sunday before he told me, come and pray, and
00:43:25I got up there, you know, with my mad, crazy self, you know what I said?
00:43:28Now, he's UNC, right, but he wanted to have a prayer meeting this Sunday.
00:43:32I mean, if I didn't call him in, but he couldn't even hope to win.
00:43:36So I went there, and I said, I don't have a Syrian Lebanese friend.
00:43:41I said that publicly.
00:43:43I don't have one.
00:43:44And Elie Zakoura says, I will be your first.
00:43:47And now recently here, I started to deal with this guy, Hadid, at the store on Frederick
00:43:53Street there.
00:43:55Yes.
00:43:56And it's a love thing.
00:43:57When I met with him the first time about a month ago before I went to London, listen,
00:44:02he was emotional.
00:44:03He nearly cried.
00:44:04He said, Pastor, I have such respect for you, and we hugged, and then I gave him a book,
00:44:09and he exchanged, gave me a nice, you see, shirt like that, have mercy.
00:44:14All right.
00:44:15Pastor.
00:44:16Yes.
00:44:17The webinar, let's deal with some of the components of this webinar this evening.
00:44:22Incidentally, what time?
00:44:24It is 5 to 6.50 p.m.
00:44:26All right.
00:44:27It is 5 to 6.50 p.m.
00:44:29How do people register for it?
00:44:31People just have to go on the link, and we have sent a link on all around.
00:44:34I think we sent a link.
00:44:35If you could show it for me at some point in time, I'd be happy.
00:44:39But the link is there, all right, and we have several experts, some dealing with the spiritual
00:44:44dimension, the social crisis dimension, the parent, the divorced parent, all of that is
00:44:51coming up there.
00:44:52The child who feels he's abandoned or not loved, looking at different models of the
00:44:57family.
00:44:58As I said, the bonded, the ruling, the chaotic, there's also the protecting family, all right,
00:45:04where nobody's really allowed to make a difference in the community.
00:45:08And then we look at the family, you know, as a community, as one community, where we
00:45:14feel for each other.
00:45:15Could I just say something?
00:45:16As the politicist was being discussed, I thought about it.
00:45:19You know, we have to live together before the elections.
00:45:22We have to live together during the elections, and we have to live together after the elections.
00:45:26It's the aftermath we don't study, all right?
00:45:29And I have a favorite thing I always say.
00:45:32People tell me they feel like they're from Pandy.
00:45:34That's my own, what I'm about to say, not Baz.
00:45:36You know what I always say?
00:45:38You don't have to hate the PNM to vote for the UNC, and you don't have to hate the UNC
00:45:43to vote for the PNM.
00:45:45It mustn't have nothing but hatred at all.
00:45:48And I think the society's becoming, I think we had three more murders in San Fernando
00:45:52within the last 24 hours.
00:45:54I'm going down there in a short while.
00:45:55But what I'm saying is, we must have that commitment to forgiveness in this society.
00:46:01You know, I must be prepared to love a Catholic and a Hindu, as I love a Seventh-day Adventist.
00:46:07That's where the rubber hits the road, you know.
00:46:09I must come out of the box.
00:46:11I must defend the other side.
00:46:13You know, one of the stories that really amazed me was the story of two Germans, all right.
00:46:19They were young adults in Munich University, and they defended the Jews, they sheltered
00:46:23the Jews, and they were tortured and decapitated.
00:46:26You know what they said?
00:46:28Every word that comes from the mouth of Hitler is a lie, all right.
00:46:32They saw Germany as one family.
00:46:34That was a vision that Hitler and most, you know, dictatorial leaders don't have that
00:46:39kind of vision.
00:46:40That vision has been lost in India right now, sad to say, where the Gandhian philosophy
00:46:45is not really embraced by the present leadership.
00:46:47And I'm saying to all of us, as Trinidad and Tobago, we have to come together as we never
00:46:52came together before.
00:46:53We must have hope.
00:46:55You know, Marlon, they say, hope is to the soul what oxygen is to the body.
00:47:00Hope is to the soul what oxygen is to the body.
00:47:03And I want to tell you something.
00:47:05We need to adopt a set of young people, a set of young people growing up in loveless
00:47:08and godless homes.
00:47:10They never knew what a hug is, what touch is, the magic of touch.
00:47:14They don't understand that.
00:47:16They never really had parents who loved them unconditionally.
00:47:20I'm dealing with a family right now.
00:47:22It's a broken family, right, right, right now.
00:47:24But I'm just saying, Pastor, that this discussion that you all are having this evening, is it
00:47:30not a conversation, well, it's something that is long overdue.
00:47:35Sure.
00:47:36And you know, people have wanted, I invited over 200 people last night.
00:47:40I'm telling you.
00:47:41For the last two webinars, we've had about 260 devices, and we want to up that to 1,000.
00:47:48That is our goal.
00:47:49But it's a discussion, and it involves parents.
00:47:52It involves experts.
00:47:53It involves people involved in the possibility ministries.
00:47:57For example, how do you deal with a, you know, a differently abled child?
00:48:01How does he fit into the picture?
00:48:04How do you deal with a child who feels he's lost or she is lost?
00:48:09And then you have the issue of human trafficking in the family.
00:48:12So many young people missing.
00:48:14You're not sure if the girl ran away.
00:48:15Don't be judgmental with a guy.
00:48:18You're not sure she's another child.
00:48:19You're not sure she's trafficked out of the country.
00:48:21And by the way, Trinidad and Tobago must know that human trafficking is real.
00:48:26It's not some pie in the sky fantasy Hollywood thing you're dealing with.
00:48:30Human trafficking is real.
00:48:31And that is why parents, you have to know where your child is at a particular point
00:48:35in time.
00:48:36When the school ends at three and your child coming home at seven, what is happening between
00:48:40three and seven?
00:48:42I know a guy who, a senior guy who mashed up a form four student, mashed her up, sexually
00:48:48abused her.
00:48:49And that child was going so well academically from an impoverished community, that child
00:48:56has lost it.
00:48:57We are trying to rebuild the vision and the dream in that child.
00:49:00I want to get back to the theme, parenting in the Caribbean, a faith based response.
00:49:08And we are speaking about also the responsibility of faith based organizations when it comes
00:49:18to speaking on a number of issues in Trinidad and Tobago and in society.
00:49:24But do you feel, Pastor, that more and more of these faith based organizations, they need
00:49:30to step up their efforts, they need to speak a lot more on issues and the social ills that
00:49:38face us in society?
00:49:39Well, let me tell you something.
00:49:42A number of our, a number of churches, you know, and I say churches, I speak broadly,
00:49:47whether it's temple or mosque or what have you, Christian, non-Christian religions.
00:49:52We have to be careful we don't become endangered.
00:49:55We are endangered.
00:49:56You see, when I was a child, there were certain factors.
00:49:58For example, one day met, when I was in school, years ago, all right, ever since Adam was
00:50:04a child, you know, I was involved with a little gang story between Belmont Methodist and St.
00:50:10Margaret.
00:50:11But they pull a knife.
00:50:12Now the kids pulling guns, now the kids vaping.
00:50:15We have a lot more to do.
00:50:16I am shocked that more religious, you know, entities are not speaking to the issue of
00:50:22vaping in schools, even in religious schools, vaping, the use of drugs.
00:50:28How it is, Marlon, how it is, so help me God, that we have young people in Form 3 and in
00:50:35Form 4 who are part of adult gangs, they're being mentored, and in schools, they're leading
00:50:41the gangs.
00:50:42So they are the leaders in the school and associates in the community.
00:50:45Now in heaven's name, that kind of negative mentoring could be taking place, and we keep
00:50:50quiet.
00:50:51We have to call it out.
00:50:53We say, call sin by its right name, and we have to be fearless.
00:50:56Let me tell you something.
00:50:57I think fear has overcome the society and overcome some of our religious institutions
00:51:03also.
00:51:04Fear, and we have schools, you know, one guy complained to me, you know, from a religious
00:51:08prestige school.
00:51:09He said, Pastor, I want to tell you something.
00:51:11We have guys there who are smoking the ganja in the school, in the washroom, and they are
00:51:17doing that.
00:51:18Vaping like that, I have heard of vaping from a talk show artist, vaping in primary schools,
00:51:23and we have to call out that, all right?
00:51:25It's not an attack on the government or the opposition, but I want to tell the government
00:51:29and the opposition that we have to be role models.
00:51:33Young people are looking for role models.
00:51:35They're looking for heroes, and they see right through us, and I'm appealing to Trinidad
00:51:40and Tobago, let us love the young people unconditionally.
00:51:43Let us look at the challenges they have, the social media.
00:51:47One parent, one grandparent called me, he said, Pastor, the parents give up.
00:51:50They give up.
00:51:51All right?
00:51:52So I am now pleased.
00:51:53I have to get up at three o'clock and go in my granddaughter's room.
00:51:56She's there and bailing in her schoolwork, so that the acceptance of responsibility that
00:52:03God has given us, and I want to say before we close off, I want to say this.
00:52:08Folks, all right, I'm talking to religious institutions now, and church leaders, and
00:52:13those of us who have values.
00:52:15We have to make a greater effort in this plural society, but I want to say what Mahatma Gandhi
00:52:22said.
00:52:23He said, you don't kill your enemies, you kill your desire to kill.
00:52:25Therefore, I must be willing to die for a Hindu.
00:52:28You know, I was in an area, dangerous, dangerous area, Dr. Marlon.
00:52:33I was there.
00:52:35When I was there, I saw a guy going to rape a Hindu girl.
00:52:38I discovered who she was after.
00:52:40All right?
00:52:41I alone, God and the angels and myself alone, with my broken down Cressida car.
00:52:45I call it a Cressoda.
00:52:46It was in the past tense, not Cressida.
00:52:49You know what happened, Marlon?
00:52:50I repulsed that bugger.
00:52:51I wasn't going to kill him.
00:52:52I was going to break his foot.
00:52:53I was sure I have mercy, and I showed him my sword and my well piece, because he's going
00:52:57to rape the girl.
00:52:58He's pulling the girl in the bush.
00:52:59I said, that ain't happening.
00:53:00And you know, recently, a young pastor was in the same situation, and he posted on Facebook,
00:53:06I say, hallelujah, mental guy.
00:53:07He said, you went for that guy.
00:53:08You know what I mean?
00:53:09Young boy, young pastor, you know, in his late 20s, have mercy.
00:53:10And I am saying, we must have the courage.
00:53:11We must never, the criminals have gotten us to believe that we can't win the battle against
00:53:12crime.
00:53:13And by God's grace, and by accepting our sense of responsibility, to build genuine communities
00:53:14and loving people who are not related to us.
00:53:15And I am saying, we must have the courage.
00:53:16We must never, the criminals have gotten us to believe that we can't win the battle against
00:53:17crime.
00:53:18And by God's grace, and by accepting our sense of responsibility, to build genuine communities
00:53:19and loving people who are not related to us.
00:53:20And I am saying, we must never, the criminals have gotten us to believe that we can't win
00:53:21the battle against crime.
00:53:22And by God's grace, and by accepting our sense of responsibility, to build genuine communities
00:53:28and loving people who are not related to us, who are not in our church, who don't vote
00:53:33like us, we can win the battle.
00:53:35Yeah.
00:53:36You see, when Pastor Dutton is here, how do I follow up on that energy?
00:53:39Yeah.
00:53:40But again, the webinar is at five o'clock this afternoon, and it goes until what time
00:53:46you said?
00:53:47Seven o'clock.
00:53:48Seven o'clock.
00:53:49Yes, parenting in the Caribbean.
00:53:51All right.
00:53:52A paid-based response.
00:53:53Yeah.
00:53:54Yeah.
00:53:55Pastor, thank you for the energy this morning.
00:53:56You know, Pastor was in full flight.
00:53:57He's preaching this morning.
00:53:58Thank you, as always, for coming on so early.
00:53:59God bless you.
00:54:00God bless.
00:54:01All right.
00:54:02We are going to a very short break.
00:54:03We're coming back, everybody.
00:54:04We have this for you, you know.

00:54:56As a former Miss World, I have spent many hours walking in high heels and constantly
00:55:00on the move, so I understand the importance of joint health.
00:55:04That's why I trust OmegaXL.
00:55:07As you know, beauty works from the inside out.
00:55:21Lift my eyes unto the hills, we only have one place to go for help, hallelujah, so I
00:55:45celebrate in Jesus.
00:55:50Many parents say, I get licks and I turn out fine, but did you really?
00:55:55Was that kind of discipline the most effective and helpful, or did it instill fear and intimidation
00:56:02instead?
00:56:06Discipline is important, but it must be used in a constructive way with your children for
00:56:10it to be effective.
00:56:12So instead of just punishing them, also take the time to teach them what is appropriate
00:56:17behavior, to help them learn what to do differently, and to make better decisions.
00:56:23Try to be in control of your emotions before disciplining them.
00:56:27And discipline should be fair and consistent.
00:56:31And most importantly, it should be appropriate for your child's age.
00:56:36Remember, spare the rod, it won't spoil the child.
00:56:41At the end of the day, keep trying your best, you and your children deserve it.

00:56:52The letter of the day is D for Discipline.
00:56:56Good morning, I am Ansel Gibbs with a news update.
00:57:06Investigations are continuing after a nurse was shot and killed near the Princestown District
00:57:11Health Facility.
00:57:12It happened on Wednesday afternoon.
00:57:15Relatives say Sadna Gangu was in a parked BMW when a Nissan Tida pulled up and a gunman
00:57:21got out and shot Gangu in the head.
00:57:24She died at the scene.
00:57:26Relatives say her life was recently threatened.
00:57:30There's new interest in the oil refinery in Pointer Pier.
00:57:34That's according to the Prime Minister.
00:57:36I can tell you, at this point in time, after how many years of trying and trying and trying,
00:57:42we do have some possible expression of interest.
00:57:46I don't know what the expression is, because we have not yet looked at the expression.
00:57:51What we have are people saying to us, we think we're interested.
00:57:55So for the first time, we have some people who have some worth, who are saying that.
00:58:00When we open their proposals, we will know what those proposals are.
00:58:08And in the weather forecasts, today expect mostly hot and hazy conditions, which will
00:58:13be interrupted by a few partly cloudy spells with isolated showers.
00:58:17Tonight should be fair to partly cloudy with isolated showers.
00:58:21There may be gusty winds and street or flash flooding in or near heavy showers.
00:58:27High temperatures are forecast at 33 degrees Celsius in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:58:32Seas will be moderate, with waves between 1.5 and 2 meters in open waters, and below
00:58:371 meter and occasionally choppy in sheltered areas.
00:59:07fat-soluble vitamin primarily synthesized through sun exposure.
00:59:11You can also get it from certain food sources like fatty fish, cheese, and egg yolks.
00:59:17What makes it a powerhouse?
00:59:18It's its fundamental role in facilitating calcium and phosphorus absorption, key minerals
00:59:24for bone health.
00:59:25It's also a vital component in bolstering the resilience of our immune system.
00:59:29It's a powerhouse nutrient, crucial for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, promoting
00:59:34bone health and supporting immune system function.
00:59:37But how does vitamin D3 relate to diabetes, you wonder?
00:59:40Let's delve deeper into this mystery.
00:59:43Vitamin D3 is a crucial factor when it comes to insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism,
00:59:48two key in the diabetes equation.
00:59:50What is insulin, you ask?
00:59:52It's a hormone that keeps a tab on the glucose in our bloodstream.
00:59:55Any impairment in its operation can result in escalated blood sugar levels, creating
00:59:59an environment conducive to diabetes.
01:00:02Vitamin D3 is seen as a game-changer here.
01:00:05It enhances the body's response to insulin, leading to improved regulation of blood sugar.
01:00:10Additionally, it bolsters the functioning of the pancreas, an organ where insulin is
01:00:14manufactured, thus contributing to the maintenance of stable blood sugar levels.
01:00:19An adequate intake of vitamin D3, therefore, can go a long way in preventing the onset
01:00:24of type 2 diabetes.
01:00:26But the benefits don't stop at prevention.
01:00:28For those tackling diabetes, balanced vitamin D3 levels are crucial.
01:00:33Research reveals that those with sufficient vitamin D3 have improved blood sugar control
01:00:38and lower diabetes-associated complications.
01:00:41So what's the key takeaway?
01:00:43Vitamin D3 is more than a vitamin.
01:00:45It's our body's crucial ally against diabetes for prevention and control.
01:00:51Ensuring we consume enough of this sunshine vitamin, either through sunlight, diet, or
01:00:55supplements, is an effective move towards improved health.
01:00:59In conclusion, vitamin D3 holds a significant role in our health, particularly for conditions
01:01:05like diabetes.
01:01:06This underrated vitamin is a potent force in our body's defense system, with roles extending
01:01:11far beyond mere bone health.
01:01:13It's influence across a broad sphere of our bodily functions, highlighting its importance
01:01:17in our overall wellness.
01:01:19Of particular note is its effect on our body's ability to regulate insulin sensitivity and
01:01:24glucose metabolism.
01:01:26These functions are crucial in preventing and managing diabetes, a condition that affects
01:01:30millions.
01:01:31It's fascinating how this simple nutrient, often overshadowed, plays such a crucial role
01:01:35in our health.
01:01:37Basking in the sun or partaking in a meal rich in vitamin D3 not only feels good, but
01:01:42it's also wonders for our health.
01:01:44So the next time you enjoy some sunshine or a vitamin D3-rich meal, remember the incredible
01:01:49work this humble vitamin is doing for your body.

01:03:14Join us every Monday morning at 8.30 a.m. right here on TV6 for our many moments of inspiration.
01:03:38Alright everybody, we're keeping up the energy this morning, yeah?
01:03:42Alright, so we're talking now, Island Girl Talk.
01:03:46And we do have two representatives here.
01:03:48Crystal Kane, the creator and producer, and we also have Ruby Parrish.
01:03:53Ladies, thank you very much for coming this morning.
01:03:55Thank you.
01:03:56Thank you so much for having us.
01:03:57Alright, so let's get right into it ladies.
01:03:59Island Girl Talk.
01:04:02Crystal, tell us about it.
01:04:06Well Marlon, Island Girl Talk is an online radio show geared toward women, Caribbean women in particular.
01:04:13But basically any woman that wants to party can watch, right?
01:04:17At the time when it was created, I realized that there was a space where we can have discussions for women, by women.
01:04:25This was about back in 2020, at the start of the pandemic.
01:04:32You know, you remember how it was.
01:04:34Yeah.
01:04:35We were all, I don't know, in chaos.
01:04:37We didn't know what to do.
01:04:38I, professionally as an artist, was back home, not working, not traveling.
01:04:43And how it started was, I was invited to be a co-host on a particular radio station.
01:04:50But then the restrictions increased and Mr. Rowley, you know, put the lockdown in.
01:04:56You couldn't be in a room with more than one person, etc.
01:04:59So that went through, you know.
01:05:02And it stayed with me.
01:05:05That seed was planted.
01:05:06And I was like, okay, what am I going to do now?
01:05:08You know what I mean?
01:05:09A friend of mine who was also a performer, who traveled for work, we were talking every night, every night, every night.
01:05:17Just, you know, because we have nothing else to do.
01:05:19And then one day, one night, I was like, we could have our own talk show.
01:05:23You know, and she was like, what?
01:05:24What are you talking about?
01:05:25And I explained to her and I said, listen, let's do this.
01:05:29We have the time.
01:05:30There's nothing to do.
01:05:31Let's start this.
01:05:32And won't you say that there's a space for women right now where we can have these same conversations that we're having?
01:05:38And I said, I'll call you back.
01:05:40I stayed up all night, Marlon, and basically scripted Island Girl Talk as you know it today.
01:05:45So it's an interactive talk show where we have the show.
01:05:50People can tune in.
01:05:51It's a live stream and they participate with us in real time, commenting, giving their input, etc.
01:05:59And we chat with them while we have discourse with each other.
01:06:03It's really entertaining.
01:06:04It's light and trendy, but we still give the hard hitting topics.
01:06:09That's an inside joke.
01:06:11But we still discuss the heavy stuff, but we put a light spin on it because, as you know, there's a lot of stuff going on in Trinidad right now that could be deemed a bit low vibrational.
01:06:22And we don't shy away from these things.
01:06:25But when we do address it, we try to keep everyone's spirits up.
01:06:29So it's everyone who has encountered the show so far has really fallen in love with it.
01:06:34It resonates quite a lot, even with the men as well.
01:06:38It's every Wednesday at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
01:06:42Sometimes we go a little over or a lot.
01:06:45And the last Wednesday of every month, we have a small space for the men, a segment that we call Guys Perspective.
01:06:53And we discuss topics that relate to men as well.
01:06:55We have quite the meal following as well.
01:06:58It's just a fantastic show.
01:07:00Ruby, what the experience has been for you thus far?
01:07:03Well, I've joined in season three, as Crystal rightfully mentioned.
01:07:08For one, it is very challenging to hold a space with women where you don't feel competitive.
01:07:15In the sense of usually there's one woman trying to one-up the other.
01:07:19And you feel that tension in the energy.
01:07:21This does not exist on a set of Island Girl Talk.
01:07:23And I think what's beautiful about that is that everybody's opinion is respected, supported, encouraged.
01:07:30And even if there are differing opinions, it's never a feeling of, I'm putting down yours to celebrate mine.
01:07:37It's, I hear you and I respect what you're saying.
01:07:40Perhaps I have a different perspective and I took on the topic like this.
01:07:44I just want to piggyback on something Crystal had said about the way that we address heavier topics.
01:07:50I think the structure of the show is really brilliant.
01:07:52In a sense that we do, we recap on the week, which is lovely.
01:07:57Then we go into our topic of the day, which is the heavy topic, as she mentioned.
01:08:01But then there's a balance of the topic of the day being a heavy topic.
01:08:06And then lighter segments that happen afterward.
01:08:08That being sip and spill, let's talk trends, our spotlights.
01:08:12So whomever is our guest speaker or our co-host for that day being brought in and listening to them tell their stories.
01:08:19And it's always really inspiring and really encouraging.
01:08:22And I think also sharing a panel with other artists, which is unique for me.
01:08:26Normally it's people from different backgrounds whereby I'm an artist myself.
01:08:31I'm a full-time actor.
01:08:32She's a singer.
01:08:33She's a producer.
01:08:34She's a voice actor.
01:08:36And the other two panelists, Talia and Samara Lalo, they're also artists in their own right.
01:08:41And hearing a woman's perspective coming from a panel of artists just brings a different experience than what I've had before.
01:08:49So I've been really enjoying it.
01:08:51Yeah.
01:08:52And I think Ruby has answered my next question because it's not the first time that we have seen or heard of a program such as this involving women.
01:09:01And I was going to ask you what is different.
01:09:03But as I said, I think that Ruby has told us what is different about it.
01:09:08But what I want to say is that I think that it is sad that in 2024 women still feel that they do not have a safe space.
01:09:19And I think that is disappointing.
01:09:21It is.
01:09:22And there is a need for a forum such as yours to give them that safe space.
01:09:28Absolutely.
01:09:29It's clear just based by the reception that we've gotten and the feedback that we've gotten.
01:09:35It's clear that that is the reality, as sad as it is.
01:09:40What we aim to accomplish with Island Girl Talk is all the conversations that we would have in the privacy of our homes or on a girl's line or whatever.
01:09:49That is what we're trying to bring to the show.
01:09:52So it's not necessarily a show where, like Ruby said, we're debating or could come across as bickering.
01:10:00Because you know once people see women in a room, they think that we can't coexist peacefully.
01:10:05That's not the case.
01:10:06We aim to make that safe space feel like if those who are watching on are there with their girlfriends.
01:10:13And we're just chatting about any and everything under the sun that concerns us.
01:10:17Yeah.
01:10:18What has the response been thus far?
01:10:20Very positive.
01:10:21I mean we have our loyal fans who come out every week and they make sure to tell us, I'm here and I'm ready.
01:10:30But it's been really, really positive.
01:10:31And I think not just with viewers but with guest speakers themselves who may not have necessarily seen perhaps Season 1 or Season 2 but may have joined us for Season 3.
01:10:41And to hear them be like, this was a really beautiful experience.
01:10:46I think for me that's the most rewarding part.
01:10:48It's more than just the views and the likes and the shares.
01:10:52For me it's the journey and the journey of being able to have our guests from the beginning of the show with us.
01:10:58Have them walk through their journeys and live vicariously through their stories.
01:11:02And what does that inspire in us and what does that inspire in our viewers is what pushes the show to the next level every week that we continue on.
01:11:11Absolutely.
01:11:12And I can't tell you how many letters, when I say letters or messages online etc.
01:11:18And WhatsApp messages from people saying, Crystal I don't think you understand how you guys, the good that you guys are doing with this show.
01:11:27And thank you for this topic or thank you for that, for bringing this to the fore.
01:11:31And then people tell you their life story and what they're going through.
01:11:34And you end up meeting and making new friends just off of the show.
01:11:38People reaching out through our social media.
01:11:40So it's quite rewarding.
01:11:42And you all are prepared to deal with any issue that a caller may put on the table?
01:11:48That's the point of having people live.
01:11:51We don't know what to expect.
01:11:53We can have a heckler.
01:11:54We can have someone who would throw stuff at us.
01:11:57We are prepared to address it.
01:11:59As long as it's an issue that people want to talk about, we will address it.
01:12:03Just to add to what Crystal is saying.
01:12:05What I think is again, probably sound like I'm reiterating a point I made earlier.
01:12:10But the balance of respect is what I genuinely appreciate about the show.
01:12:14Even if we have a heckler calling, even if we have a comment that's not necessarily the most respectful.
01:12:19The way that we will handle it, the way that we will respond to you is with the same grace and respect that we expect for ourselves.
01:12:25And I think being in a space where there's just an opportunity for you to feel heard.
01:12:32And for you to have a respectful rebuttal is a safe space for anyone.
01:12:36But ladies, you all are young ladies.
01:12:39You all are young women.
01:12:41Some people may say, well, what experience do they have?
01:12:44You'd be surprised.
01:12:45They know how to live.
01:12:46We may look that way.
01:12:48Thank you.
01:12:49Thank you for the compliment.
01:12:51That's the first time on live television women would have said, well, we're older than how we look.
01:12:56That's the first time they admit to that.
01:12:59I could own that.
01:13:00I'm not ashamed of my age.
01:13:02But we do have a range of ages on the panel.
01:13:06And we do have a range of ages and the guest speakers that come in as well.
01:13:10And I think hearing the different perspectives per age group is what adds to the show.
01:13:16Because, I mean, I would be the youngest person on the panel.
01:13:19But then I'm learning from all of these other women and the guest speakers who come in and share their own life experiences.
01:13:26And just kind of realizing in your own way the theme of what they would have experienced.
01:13:31Not necessarily the exact experience, of course.
01:13:33But a theme of it is something that is a constant repeat in all of our lives.
01:13:37And it's something that I think most people, whether you are in your 80s, whether you are in your 60s, whether you are 10.
01:13:45Maybe not 10.
01:13:46Maybe 20.
01:13:48You would be able to relate to.
01:13:50And it's maybe just a difference in how you address it or how you approach it.
01:13:56But the theme of the experience is generally the same.
01:14:00Absolutely.
01:14:01Yeah, let's talk a little bit about some of the persons that you invite to the program.
01:14:07Some of your guests.
01:14:08That's it.
01:14:09I was just about to get to that.
01:14:10So when it comes to our guests, no one is off limits.
01:14:14Some people will tend to want to interview the popular people or the well-known people.
01:14:18That's not us.
01:14:19That's not us.
01:14:20Of course, in season one, to get that momentum going and to get interest, we did invite quite a few artists.
01:14:25Like Nyla Blackman, Mikhail Teja, Nigel Rojas, even Michael Phillips.
01:14:30And quite a number of other people who are well-known.
01:14:34But the truth of the matter is Island Girl Talk will interview anyone.
01:14:39As long as you are doing good in society or doing a service in society, we will bring you onto the show to talk about it.
01:14:47It's gotten to the point now that people are contacting us now to be on the show.
01:14:52And we have to now, you know, slot in people.
01:14:55And it's a good thing.
01:14:57It's a good problem to have.
01:14:59But at the end of the day, we want to highlight women, whether known or up and coming.
01:15:05And the good that they're doing.
01:15:07Any product or services that they're offering to the communities.
01:15:11They are free to come on the show as long as we have the space for them.
01:15:15Let's talk about it.
01:15:16And you say the program, it's only on Wednesdays?
01:15:19Every Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m.
01:15:22But we often go over.
01:15:24But judging how well the program has been going and the response, you feel that is something that you can extend?
01:15:31Oh, absolutely.
01:15:32Speaking of extending.
01:15:33Ruby wants to do it.
01:15:34I'm ready.
01:15:35Speaking of extending.
01:15:37Ruby, you want to do the honors?
01:15:38So guys, big announcement, drumroll.
01:15:42Island Girl Talk Season 1 is officially on Tempo on Monday and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
01:15:50Yes.
01:15:51On Tempo, Monday and Wednesdays.
01:15:53So whether it's Flo, Digicel, whether you're using a foreign network.
01:15:57Amplia.
01:15:58Amplia, Tempo, Monday and Wednesday from 8 p.m.
01:16:03And on Wednesdays on OUR Radio and on YouTube, you can watch Island Girl Season 3 live from 6 to 8 and then run across the Tempo from 8.
01:16:14Yeah.
01:16:15So we were, of course, picked up by Tempo because they loved what they were seeing.
01:16:18They loved the content.
01:16:19And of course, because we're currently filming, we said, listen, run Season 1 as reruns.
01:16:24Let people see how far we've come.
01:16:26Let them catch up with all the topics that we've done.
01:16:29And they could always, like Ruby said, watch us live later on.
01:16:32Ruby, anything else you'd like to add?
01:16:34Just that this is, yes, it's an Island Girl Talk.
01:16:37And yes, we do address things in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:16:40But I think what is beautiful about it is that we take a lot of things, a lot of look at things in a Caribbean context.
01:16:46And it's beautiful to see that regardless of your class, your ethnic background, your age, how many things are relatable just through Caribbean culture and Caribbean upbringing.
01:16:57And I think that's something that translates across the islands.
01:17:00Which, again, is why I believe that being viewed or being shown on Tempo is such a beautiful opportunity for other islands to be able to connect with Trinidad and Tobago in a different space and see that we really are all one.
01:17:12Yeah. Crystal?
01:17:13Absolutely.
01:17:14I just have to echo what Ruby said.
01:17:17I mean, the point of the matter is to be seen by everyone in the Caribbean diaspora and connect and resonate with everyone.
01:17:26And I think that's the point of it, especially women.
01:17:28Men, we love you all too, but it's really a woman's talk show.
01:17:32And you get a little space, men.
01:17:35You do get a little space.
01:17:37And every other platform, you get all the space.
01:17:40But it's very impactful.
01:17:41Like yesterday, we had Chromatix on the show.
01:17:44Mind you, Chromatix is the CEO of the platform that we're on, which is OurRadio.fm.
01:17:50It's an online radio platform that caters to all things local.
01:17:54Local music, regional music as well.
01:17:57There's other programs on the show, like True Talk, No Light, ETNL, and The Grind.
01:18:02There's a new program that came on on a Friday, which is just strictly music, local music.
01:18:07It's really fantastic, a fantastic platform.
01:18:10And yeah, the men love the show.
01:18:13They're really more vocal on the show, I would say, in terms of giving their opinions.
01:18:18And again, we're just happy to see the progress, and we can't wait to see where it goes from there.
01:18:23All right.
01:18:24Again, Crystal, how can people tune in?

01:21:28Nice.
01:21:29Look who I'm riding.
01:21:30Tracking now.
01:21:40A message from the Counter-Trafficking Unit of the Ministry of National Security.
01:21:47Morning.
01:21:48Morning.
01:21:49Listen now.
01:21:50I just noticed something out.
01:21:52There are new people at the bureau today.
01:21:54Where's that?
01:21:55Girl, the man is passing up and down in front of here with a set of women.
01:22:00I really noticed some women living there, you know.
01:22:02And they can't even say as much as good morning.
01:22:04Well, listen now.
01:22:05I wonder if this human trafficking you think is that?
01:22:09So, how can you spot and identify perpetrators and victims of trafficking?
01:22:14Many victims are found living and working together in the same place
01:22:18and sleep in shared and inappropriate spaces.
01:22:21Victims work excessively long hours.
01:22:23They often sleep in the daytime and work long nights.
01:22:26They are often escorted everywhere they go and may appear to be malnourished.
01:22:31They may show signs of physical abuse, drug and alcohol use
01:22:35and may also appear withdrawn, fearful or intimidated.
01:22:39Victims who are migrants are often not in possession of their identity or immigration documents
01:22:44and have irregular immigration status.
01:22:46Perpetrators can be male or female and may appear to be managing or controlling the victims
01:22:52and they may even at times appear to be the victim's best friend, boyfriend or employer.
01:22:59We are the counter-trafficking unit of the Ministry of National Security, Trinidad and Tobago,
01:23:04safeguarding human life.
01:23:09Long time we grew up learning to respect our elders.
01:23:12But what about children?
01:23:14Do we need to give and show respect to children as well?
01:23:18We certainly do and I'll tell you why.
01:23:23Showing respect to your child can help them feel valued and build their self-esteem.
01:23:29Respect is a two-way road.
01:23:31They show respect to you and in turn you give them a chance to speak,
01:23:36listen to their opinions and treat them with kindness and courtesy.
01:23:40Showing respect to children also helps them to succeed later in life.
01:23:46So remember, children deserve respect too.
01:23:50At the end of the day, keep trying your best and share if you found this useful.
01:23:54Like and follow our profile for more parenting tips.
01:23:59The letter of the day is R for Respect.
01:24:03What you can see from this image is a man lying in a pool of blood in his living room.
01:24:09He was shot dead a short while ago as two bandits tried to rob him and his family.
01:24:15What you can't hear is his wife crying inconsolably.
01:24:19What you don't know is that his four-year-old daughter is standing looking at her father,
01:24:25confused, begging him to wake up.
01:24:27Can you imagine what this wife and child are going through and what they will have to go through?
01:24:32They try to process what has happened.
01:24:34How can we begin to help?
01:24:36We can start right here at the Victim and Witness Support Unit.
01:24:40From investigation to counseling,
01:24:42to helping families find justice,
01:24:45to helping families find peace,
01:24:48this unit gives victims and witnesses hope to cope.
01:24:52We are the Victim and Witness Support Unit,
01:24:55bridging the service gap between the victims, witnesses, and the police.
01:25:19All right, so welcome back, everyone.
01:25:21So the National Action Cultural Committee, NACC,
01:25:24will observe 50 years of contribution to the development of art and culture in Trinidad and Tobago
01:25:30with an award ceremony and concert entitled
01:25:33A Night with the Legends on Sunday, 30th of June at Queens Hall.
01:25:38Here to tell us more about the event is Mbao Mohini, serving chairman of the NACC.
01:25:45All right, Mbao Mohini, thank you very much for coming this morning.
01:25:49It's a pleasure, and thanks for giving me this platform this morning.
01:25:53Of course, well, let's speak about your 50 years in existence
01:25:59and how you are going to celebrate this anniversary.
01:26:02Well, 50 years of contribution to the development of the art form,
01:26:08and this concert and award is taken in a special format
01:26:14in the sense that we are celebrating 50 years.
01:26:17We have gone back to the beginning,
01:26:20and we are recognizing those artists who took part
01:26:24in the first series of concerts we had called the Black Traditions in Art
01:26:31because those concerts did a lot in removing some of the shackles
01:26:38that were enslaving our art form.
01:26:42Prior to the NACC and those concerts,
01:26:47Calypso was restricted to two months, January and February, the carnival period.
01:26:54As a matter of fact, on Independence Night,
01:26:57when someone requested because he said,
01:27:00look, today is our Independence, I was the chief servant,
01:27:03and let us hear some local music, let us support our own culture.
01:27:08And when the DJ put it on, the audience said,
01:27:11this is not carnival, and they boiled him down, he had to take it off.
01:27:15So I'm showing you how bad it was back in those days.
01:27:18And the NACC, through the Black Traditions in Art,
01:27:22took the art form, took the Calypso right through the air.
01:27:28As time went on, it became more and more acceptable.
01:27:32And today, you can hear Calypso's play anytime.
01:27:36But at that time, it was restricted.
01:27:38It was a disrespect to our local art form,
01:27:42because as far as I know, it's the only art form in the world
01:27:46that was limited to two months.
01:27:49What we are doing as well is those Calypsonians
01:27:53who were part of that experience, the Black Traditions,
01:27:57part of that journey of opening up the art form,
01:28:00are also going to be honored at our event on Sunday.
01:28:05That is Sunday, 30th, Queens Hall, 4.30 p.m.
01:28:11So if I could just give some of those, the awardees,
01:28:15you have to be like all around.
01:28:18The Hendrickson Sisters, Anthony M.L. Philip,
01:28:23Brother Valentino, Creole, Chalk Dust,
01:28:27Len Boguse-Sharpe, because it wasn't Calypsonians alone,
01:28:30Makemba Kunle, storyteller, Ula Tunji,
01:28:34and the NACC drummers, Mongal Patasa,
01:28:39Othniel Bacchus, Pearl N2 Springer, Short Pants,
01:28:43Stamberg Windy, and Relator.
01:28:46Now, not all of them will be performing,
01:28:50but those are the list of awardees.
01:28:54Unfortunate to see that Brother Carlos Liverpool,
01:28:58Brother Chalk Dust suffered a stroke,
01:29:01but he would still accept the award.
01:29:03He wouldn't be able to perform.
01:29:05And there were two others who would be there
01:29:07accepting awards, but because of one is not the other,
01:29:10they would not be able to perform.
01:29:13The actual artists who will be performing
01:29:16would include Three Canal, Johnny King, Contender,
01:29:20Super Blue, Brother Valentino, Organizer,
01:29:24Bally, Black Prince, Len Boguse-Sharpe,
01:29:28the Hendrickson Sisters, Sherlyn and Lady Wonder,
01:29:32King Luther, the Vicar School of Dance,
01:29:36as well as Anne-Marie Parks Kojo Twiggy,
01:29:40who incidentally is also celebrating
01:29:44her 50th year in Calypso.
01:29:46So she's 50 years in Calypso.
01:29:48We are 50 years in promoting the art form,
01:29:51as well as we have the NGC TNT Sweet Tasa Group.
01:29:58So it's going to be a fantastic night of Calypso celebration.
01:30:05The awardees will be recognized for their contribution,
01:30:09as well as lovely entertainment and reflection.
01:30:15Where can people get tickets?
01:30:17Tickets are available at the box office,
01:30:19Queens Hall, at all top offices across the nation,
01:30:23and NACC Building 42, Sydney Port of Spain.
01:30:28All proceeds go to the NACC's Building and Development Fund,
01:30:33so that because we are making some adjustments,
01:30:35we are looking to make some developments
01:30:37in preparation for the next 50 years.
01:30:40Yeah, but you know, every time you come here, Mr. Mohaney,
01:30:44it is an education for me,
01:30:47when you come with your representatives too,
01:30:50because I think that, and I don't want to say in the main,
01:30:54but sometimes I think that the contribution of your organization,
01:31:01I don't know that it is well documented,
01:31:04and I don't know that the majority of us in Trinidad and Tobago know.
01:31:10Is there, or can I say, are there efforts afoot at all by your organization
01:31:18to document the contributions that you all would have made
01:31:23for so long in Trinidad and Tobago,
01:31:25and for people to learn from the experiences?
01:31:31The thing about it is that, yes, we do make our efforts to document.
01:31:35As a matter of fact, we did a booklet already,
01:31:38but that was some time back.
01:31:40So since then, a lot has happened,
01:31:43and maybe we need to do another booklet.
01:31:46As you know, because I gave you a copy of the documentation
01:31:49we did on the Young Kings competition,
01:31:52because you heard the name Luther, King Luther performing.
01:31:55He was the winner of the first Young Kings competition in 1985.
01:32:01Twiggy, whom I just mentioned,
01:32:03was the winner of the first National Calypso Queen
01:32:07under the auspices of NACC and NWAC in 1985.
01:32:13So a magazine was done,
01:32:20giving the history of the Young Kings, 1985 to 2016.
01:32:25So we do our documentation, but there's a need for a lot more,
01:32:29and there's a need to communicate the information.
01:32:34Maybe in your refurbishment works, Mr. Moheny,
01:32:38you may have to consider a library or a museum or something of the sort.
01:32:45You see, there are so many different domains,
01:32:48and that was something that was placed on the agenda,
01:32:53but it would have been the McCandle Dagger Museum.
01:32:58So it's on the agenda.
01:33:00There are a number of things, but so much to be done.
01:33:03And you need the funds, right?
01:33:05We need the funds for all of this, Mr. Moheny.
01:33:08So again, the event is an evening with the Legends of Benefit concert
01:33:13featuring veterans of Calypso and the arts,
01:33:16and it's on Sunday, 30th June, 2024.
01:33:19It begins at 4.30 p.m. at Queens Hall in St. Anne's.
01:33:24Of course, you have a contribution of $300
01:33:27and TTARP members a $50 discount.
01:33:32Anything else you'd like to share with us, Mr. Moheny?
01:33:34I should mention that in addition to the actual live audience,
01:33:41it would also be carried pay-per-view,
01:33:44and the link is WACK.TV.
01:33:51Okay?
01:33:52So you can log on to WACK.TV and pay-per-view, $20 US.
01:33:57All right.
01:33:58We also have some contact numbers on the document, Mr. Moheny.
01:34:03Yes.
01:34:04For full information, 270-4111.
01:34:08That is 270-4111 or 760-7133.
01:34:17760-7133.
01:34:19Yeah.
01:34:20And proceed to go towards the NACC's Building and Development Fund.
01:34:25All right?
01:34:26So we do have that information up for you there, Mr. Moheny.
01:34:30All right?
01:34:31Okay, Ms. Moheny, it's always a pleasure speaking with you.
01:34:33Thank you very much for coming this morning.
01:34:34It's a pleasure being here.

01:38:15So JSC, discipline dishonest doctors.
01:38:20Doctors in the public health care system should be disciplined for referring patients to their private practices.
01:38:27All right, this was the general consensus of the JSC on social services and public administration.
01:38:34Yeah, so it's something that it's not the first time we have heard of doctors who are involved in strange behavior, if I can put it lightly.
01:38:45Yeah, so there is this call to discipline these doctors now.
01:38:49All right, so you're calling us on 623-1711.
01:38:52Point 14 is on the line.
01:38:54Point 14, good morning.
01:38:56Yeah, good morning, sir.
01:38:58Morning, yes.
01:38:59Yes, I'm on air?
01:39:02Yes, you're live, sir.
01:39:03Go ahead.
01:39:04Okay, right.
01:39:05I'm calling again.
01:39:07I know I'm very disappointed in the role of the media, including yours.
01:39:13In that, there's a narrative carried when the guy from Akuta, Montana, voted against.
01:39:22Well, voted against.
01:39:24Again, those are the words that you will put.
01:39:26Voted disconcerned.
01:39:28Right, and the media took the divisive role.
01:39:34When the media got a chance to say, let us go a different way.
01:39:38That people do not be held to some point of view that is not beneficial to the country.
01:39:44But that they vote their conscience.
01:39:47No, instead of that, you all go over the bed that he did not follow party line.
01:39:51And it's the same thing you all talk about.
01:39:53So you all, I mean, you all air the back one.
01:39:55Yeah, but I think that we have given all the sides of the conversation.
01:39:59You don't think so?
01:40:00Pardon me?
01:40:01We have given all the sides.
01:40:03No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
01:40:06No, not at all.
01:40:08Not at all.
01:40:09You carry the whole point of view of the sentiment and so on.
01:40:13And he did something wrong.
01:40:15Everybody knows that when the man did probably the best thing.
01:40:19But I don't know that we have given the impression.
01:40:22And I'm speaking of the media in general.
01:40:25I don't know that we have given the impression that the gentleman did anything wrong or anything right.
01:40:31All I think that we did was report on the matter.
01:40:34Yes, it's how you all reported it.
01:40:36Yes, you reported on the matter, but how you all reported on the matter.
01:40:40It lent to the guy being blamed.
01:40:43You know, he did not listen to the whip on it.
01:40:45And so nobody, the media did not take the fact that this man voted his conscience.
01:40:49There's a change.
01:40:50This could be a change for our politics in the country.
01:40:52All right.
01:40:53OK, so how did you know?
01:40:55How did you know that it was a conscience vote?
01:40:58And it was the media that told you that he said so?
01:41:03Yes, the media told me he said so.
01:41:05Then the media followed it up by saying that, listen, if you want to see now, there's a falling away in the UNC.
01:41:14You know, he go against the party line.
01:41:17And that was the general thing that nobody took the line that this could be a change.
01:41:23Somebody voted their conscience.
01:41:24Let us see if this can happen in the PNM, too, that people don't have to follow something, whether it is good or bad.
01:41:30Because the party laid down.
01:41:32That's what happened in the U.S.
01:41:34You all chopped the balls.
01:41:36Plain, plain, plain, plain matters.
01:41:38You all dropped the ball.
01:41:39Disappointed in you all.
01:41:40Well, I don't know.
01:41:41I don't know that we are to be disappointed at all.
01:41:44I think that we have given all the sides of what happened.
01:41:48We gave you the details of the vote.
01:41:50We have been giving you what Dr. Ratbeer has said.
01:41:52We have given you what the UNC has said.
01:41:54We have given you what the analysts have said.
01:41:57We have even spoken about the history of events such as these in the past.
01:42:03So, we have given all of the sides.
01:42:05But I don't know that we in the media have taken any position, whether Mr. Ratbeer was right or he was wrong or whatever.
01:42:11To me, that is not our responsibility, you know.
01:42:13Yeah, our responsibility is to report and give you all of the sides.
01:42:18And I think that that's what we did.
01:42:20Yeah, but I do hear you.
01:42:22I don't have to agree with you.
01:42:24But I respect what you're saying.
01:42:26All right, so you're calling us on 623-1711.
01:42:28The extension, it's 1995.
01:42:30So, you can please call us now.
01:42:33You know, as I looked at this picture this morning, I was saddened by it.
01:42:38You know, it's not when media houses, when they have to decide on the front page, a picture, a lot of thought goes into that.
01:42:54And, you know, it was, I think, unfortunate, maybe the word that, you know, in life, I don't know that she would have gotten such prominence.
01:43:12And it's sad for Sadhana Gangu, I think, you know.
01:43:19This is not any criticism of the newspaper or anything like that.
01:43:24I'm just saying, you know, it's just sad that someone has to be portrayed in this sort of way, that, you know, she's dead and that's the exposure.
01:43:46Again, there's not much I can say on it.
01:43:50I hope I'm making my argument clear, you know.
01:43:55As I said, it's not a criticism of the newspaper.
01:43:58But, of course, we know she was a part of this.
01:44:03I made it clear?
01:44:05She was a part of the pageant, yeah?
01:44:10So, it's just when you take everything into consideration, it's just a sad state of affairs.
01:44:15And as the report says that she was stalked, so I suspect that the police, they do have that information.
01:44:23All right, let's take another call.
01:44:25Good morning, Karine.
01:44:27Good morning, Marlon.
01:44:29Yes.
01:44:31This question, I don't know if it's a question or what, but considering the doctors who have the private practice and that sort of thing, right?
01:44:41To be honest, I don't know.
01:44:44I mean, these men or women, they study for how many years, you know?
01:44:51And then even if they sign whatever contract to work for the government, they come and they do their part.
01:44:58And if they have a private practice, I mean, everybody has expenses, you know, overhead with children, mortgages, et cetera, et cetera.
01:45:09So, I don't have any query with that.
01:45:12I mean, some of them might be overcharging, we might think.
01:45:16But, you know, I think, you know, it's a matter that could be weighed, not to really prosecute them, you know.
01:45:27That's my take on it.
01:45:28All right.
01:45:29Thank you very much for calling us on 623-1711.
01:45:31The extension is 1995.
01:45:33PM slams investment naysayers, defends seeking Indian business ties.
01:45:39The same people who criticize the government for not attracting foreign investment are the very people who are seeking to dissuade foreigners from investing in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:45:47That's according to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
01:45:49The Prime Minister said he would press ahead with the government's program to woo investors from countries where this country has not traditionally had strong business ties, such as India.
01:46:00All right.
01:46:01You're calling us on 623-1711.
01:46:03The extension, it's 1995.
01:46:05St. Mary's, good morning.
01:46:07Good morning, Mr. Maran.
01:46:09Yes.
01:46:10How are you, sir?
01:46:11I'm good.
01:46:13I just wanted to let you know that I have a problem with street lights in my street.
01:46:19Street lights fell off the pole on pole number 81 and 84 on February 2021.
01:46:26And I reported it to T&T.
01:46:28And up to this day, I haven't seen no street lights placed on the poles.
01:46:32What's the address?
01:46:33Number 155 Saunders Street, St. Mary's Village, Moruga.
01:46:37Yes, no.
01:46:38155 Saunders Street.
01:46:40St. Mary's Village, Moruga.
01:46:42St. Mary's Village, Moruga.
01:46:44Yes.
01:46:45All right.
01:46:46We'll pass it on.
01:46:47You say since 2021?
01:46:49Yes.
01:46:50The boat lights fell off the poles and I made numerous reports.
01:46:54And up to this day, up to now, no improvement.
01:46:57No one has ever called me or said anything.
01:47:01All right.
01:47:02We are going to take your number and take the information.
01:47:05And we'll try to pass it on for you.
01:47:072021.
01:47:09Again, what are your counselors doing?
01:47:12What are the representatives for the area doing?
01:47:15Yeah.
01:47:16What are T&T doing?
01:47:17Can you understand?
01:47:182021.
01:47:20They have not had lighting 155 Saunders Street, St. Mary's Village,
01:47:26in Moruga.
01:47:27Yeah.
01:47:28You're calling us on 623-1711.
01:47:30The extension, it's 1995.
01:47:32I could understand maybe two weeks, but not since 2021.
01:47:37Yeah.
01:47:38It's since COVID we're talking about, you know, right?
01:47:41Okay.
01:47:42So we're moving on.
01:47:45We do have another story here.
01:47:46Barrickport counselor, no water for 21 days.
01:47:49Barrickport West counselor, Nicholas Kanhai says at least 11 communities
01:47:53within the district have not had pipe on water for the past 21 days with
01:47:58residents now growing desperate for assistance.
01:48:02So another situation where the WASM must look at Davide.
01:48:07Good morning.
01:48:08Good morning.
01:48:09Yes, sir.
01:48:11I'm looking at some development internationally with respect to the
01:48:15USDA and Saudi Arabia trading with other countries,
01:48:19not using the petrodollars.
01:48:21And also looking at the peninsula and all these other countries.
01:48:24No, you didn't want to use different currencies.
01:48:27What effect will it have on Trinidad and Tobago seeing that everybody
01:48:31has any value of the dollar is dropping.
01:48:33It will be dropping.
01:48:35I want to know what effect will it have on Trinidad and Tobago.
01:48:40All right.
01:48:41Thank you very much, sir.
01:48:42You're calling us on 623-1711.
01:48:44The extension it's 1995.
01:48:45We have one more call or maybe two.
01:48:48All right.
01:48:49Let's take a call.
01:48:50Good morning, caller.
01:48:52All right.
01:48:53We're still waiting on that on that call.
01:48:54All right.
01:48:55So you're calling us on 623-1711.
01:48:57The extension it's 1995.
01:48:59So intimate partner violence is an issue that is becoming more and more
01:49:02pervasive in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:49:04And that's according to Justice Lisa Ram Sumair Hinds.
01:49:07And she said that on Tuesday.
01:49:09Why all the cars?
01:49:10Let's see people and leave people alone.
01:49:12Yeah.
01:49:13If somebody tell you no, no is no.
01:49:15No don't mean yes.
01:49:16Kumoto, good morning.
01:49:18Good morning, Mr. Mallon.
01:49:20Good morning.
01:49:21Morning.
01:49:22I just heard that somebody don't have water for 21 days.
01:49:26Yes.
01:49:28Up in our area, it's months you don't get water.
01:49:31The last time we get water, as I can remember, is the 19th of May.
01:49:35So, I don't know.
01:49:37If we're in there, we're in trouble.
01:49:40But have you tried to call the utility?
01:49:42I know that the last time that they were here, they said that they have
01:49:45set up a number of lines at WASA to take your calls and to address
01:49:49your concerns.
01:49:51Have you all tried to maybe go down or call them?
01:49:53The caller is gone.
01:49:55I tried calling them.
01:49:57When you call, you have a number, number 49 or 59.
01:50:00Your number is so-and-so and so-and-so.
01:50:07This is where in Kumoto?
01:50:12This is in Corial, Kumoto.
01:50:15Corial, Kumoto.
01:50:18All right.
01:50:19Caller, what we will do, we will pass on the information for you.
01:50:23And hopefully you get some level of assistance very, very soon.
01:50:26All right?
01:50:27Because I know the authorities, the people from WASA,
01:50:29they usually view our program.
01:50:31All right?
01:50:32So, we are going to have a very short break, everybody.
01:50:33We're coming back.
01:50:35We'll be right back.

01:53:20Investigations are continuing after a niece was shot and killed near the Princestown District
01:53:25Health's facility.
01:53:28It happened on Wednesday afternoon.
01:53:33Investigations are continuing after a niece was shot and killed near the Princestown District
01:53:38Health Facility.
01:53:40It happened on Wednesday afternoon.
01:53:42Reports say Sadna Gangu was in a parked BMW when a Nissan Tida pulled up and a gunman
01:53:48got out and shot Gangu in the head.
01:53:51She died at the scene.
01:53:53Relatives say her life was recently threatened.
01:53:57There's new interest in the oil refinery in Pointer Pier.
01:54:01That's according to the Prime Minister.
01:54:03I can tell you, at this point in time, after how many years of trying and trying and trying,
01:54:09we do have some possible expression of interest.
01:54:13I don't know what the expression is because we have not yet looked at the expression.
01:54:18What we have are people saying to us, we think we're interested.
01:54:22So for the first time, we have some people who have some worth, who are saying that when
01:54:28we open their proposals, we will know what those proposals are.
01:54:35And in the weather forecasts, today expect mostly hot and hazy conditions, which will
01:54:40be interrupted by a few partly cloudy spells with isolated showers.
01:54:44Tonight should be fair to partly cloudy with isolated showers.
01:54:48There may be gusty winds and street or flash flooding in or near heavy showers.
01:54:54High temperatures are forecast at 33 degrees Celsius in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:54:59Seas will be moderate with waves between one and a half and two meters in open water.
01:55:04One meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter
01:55:09and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter and meter
