00:00 You've done so much voice work in your career. What do you love about this medium, Animated Movies?
00:04 You know, I love that you can record a lot of times in your pajamas.
00:08 Let's just talk about it.
00:10 And also, it's make-believe. It's like the purest form of art, of acting anyway, because you're not...
00:16 No one sees you. So you can be a rutabaga.
00:19 You can be an alien. You can be a coach. I have no sports tendencies in my body.
00:24 But in this film, I'm a coach. A hockey coach. I can't even skate.
00:27 So you can be anything. And I think it's opening up your imagination in a really beautiful way.
00:32 Tell us a little bit about your character, the coach, the hockey coach, of this camp
00:36 that is really the centerpiece of the movie.
00:38 Absolutely. I play Coach Roberts. She is loving but very tough.
00:42 She puts Riley through her paces. And I think the coach in this camp is the reason the new emotions show up.
00:48 Because there's a lot of stuff happening that joy and sadness and fear just can't get done.
00:53 There's layers to it now because she's getting older.
00:56 So I think the coach kind of brings in some of that.
00:59 Coach Roberts is pretty tough on Riley in the movie. How did you approach that?
01:03 Do you think that's as tough as she was in Coach Roberts' mind?
01:06 Or is that how we're seeing it, you know, through Riley's mind?
01:09 You know, I think Coach was probably very tough.
01:12 But I think it's probably tougher than Riley ever experienced in her life.
01:15 So I think it probably... She's putting a little 20 on 10, as we say in slang.
01:19 We recorded it a few different ways. Every line, we did it really tough, sort of tough, and kind of sweet.
01:26 So I'm interested to see what version of Coach Roberts lives,
01:28 or what scene she's tough in and which scene she's more loving in. So we'll see.
01:34 Did you get to record with anyone or did you do all your pages solo?
01:37 No, recorded all solo. It was just me and the production team.
01:40 Sometimes they were on Zoom, sometimes they were in the studio with me.
01:44 But it was really a lot of... It was just playing.
01:46 Like we were kids, we were like, "I'm gonna be in this too, Cops and Robbers!"
01:49 It was literally playing like that. Just silliness.
01:51 It sounds like this is your first time seeing the movie on the big screen today?
01:54 It's my first time seeing the full movie. I did something else for Disney.
01:57 I hosted something and they showed the first 35 minutes.
02:00 So I've seen the first 35 minutes, but now I want to know how it ends.
02:04 I gotta know. So I'm excited to see the full thing.
02:07 I saw the film over the weekend and I just absolutely loved it.
02:10 And I feel like it reminded me about the importance of staying in touch with your inner child and still finding that joy.
02:16 You still need that, whatever age you are, you still need it.
02:19 How do you try to do that in your life? Stay in touch with that inner child and still find and maintain your joy?
02:24 I'm very silly. I don't know if anybody realizes or pays attention to me.
02:27 I'm a big fool. And a weirdo.
02:30 And so I lean into that and thankfully I'm marrying a man that's just as silly as me.
02:33 So we just laugh and do really dumb stuff. We'll dance in the middle of a grocery store.
02:37 You have to find ways to stay joyous.
02:41 'Cause life is hard. So find a little joy wherever you can. That's what I try to do.
02:46 Totally. And which emotion would you say runs the control board in your head?
02:50 Oh, hope. I love that. Hope does.
02:54 I'm always believing it's gonna get better. No matter what it looks like today, it's gonna get better. Always.
