00:00 This was confirmed by Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hines this
00:04 afternoon during a news conference at the National Security Building on
00:08 Abercrombie Street in Port of Spain.
00:10 And I'm calling on the community in light of the reward of $100,000 to assist quietly.
00:18 There are persons who you can trust and who you can share and the state will treat with the same
00:24 confidentially and I'm encouraging the citizens even for your own sakes you may
00:30 save a life if you did that and the life you saved may just be your own.
00:34 Hines once again condemned the incident and said that he had been given the
00:39 assurance that the police were doing all that they can to find those responsible.
00:43 On Sunday night eight persons were shot in Gonzales Belmont when armed men
00:49 pulled up to a group of Limers after a football game. Four men were fatally
00:53 shot while four others including a soldier and a woman were injured.
00:58 One man died on the scene. The other seven injured persons were taken to the Port of
01:03 Spain General Hospital. However while the injured men were being brought into the
01:08 accident and emergency ward the gunmen stormed the medical institution and shot
01:12 at the group once again injuring persons and sending staff and patients
01:16 scampering for safety. The incident resulted in the deaths of Peter Abdul
01:22 Williams 31, Kevin King 30, Jonathan Arjun 28 and Jason Reyes 21. All were said to
01:30 be from Belmont. As a result Hines called on citizens to work with the police to
01:36 help find those responsible for this heinous crime. He said that he had faith
01:40 in the TTPS to find those responsible. This is why I'm happy to know that the
01:45 police are now garnering all the evidence that is they could and in
01:49 pursuit of these assailants it would be very gratifying to know they get their
01:54 hands on them and triply gratifying if they get those guns. He also noted that
01:59 members of staff were traumatized following the incident. Well I can
02:03 understand that people would be traumatized and the Minister of Health
02:08 yesterday had a quiet conversation with me indicating that yes quite
02:13 justifiably members of staff expressed deep concerns about what transpired
02:19 and I am aware that a review of the security systems around there is also on
02:25 the way. Alexander Brouzal TV6 News
