00:00 On Saturday afternoon, 73-year-old Roop Isahak was relaxing in his hammock downstairs his
00:07 Blachacha Trace Maruga home while his double amputee wife was resting upstairs.
00:13 But around 2pm, Mr Isahak said he began smelling smoke and rushed to the front of his three-bedroom
00:21 wooden home where he made the horrific discovery.
00:24 It was his home on fire while his wife was still inside.
00:47 His wife of 28 years, 68-year-old Sumintra Roopnarine had no legs, so an escape on her
00:54 own was near impossible.
00:57 And despite Mr Isahak rallying the help of neighbours, the community does not have pipe
01:03 bone water.
01:04 Still, they depleted all they had from all of their barrels in a desperate attempt to
01:10 save her.
01:26 Neighbours believe if there were water lines run in this community of about 60 people,
01:49 just maybe Ms Roopnarine could have been saved.
01:53 Mr Isahak says he has no idea what caused the fire and having now lost his wife, house,
02:01 car and all other material items, as a pensioner himself, he is in need of as much help as
02:08 possible.
02:10 If you are willing to assist, Mr Isahak can be reached at 290 79 58.
