It comes as the Ministry of Sport launched their I Choose Sport Programme which uses Sporting Ambassadors in a bid to help change the sporting culture in T&T.
00:03 I Choose Sport is an integrated program designed to foster the resurgence of sports within schools across Trinidad and Tobago.
00:10 This initiative aims to cultivate a culture of greater appreciation by educating students, parents, educators, and the wider society on the significance of sports for holistic development.
00:24 The primary objective of this initiative is to significantly enhance the promotion and support of sports development among children and young individuals aged 11 to 17 within schools and broader community settings.
00:39 Head of Partnerships and Alliances at Sport, Kiron Sirret, explained that they are seeking the next generation of elite athletes. They intend to do so by implementing a schools caravan, sports mentorship and ambassador initiative, and community sport program.
00:55 They are hoping that the national sporting organizations and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee bring their technical competence to make the program a success.
01:04 Most of them are represented here today. They are critical partners as well because they will bring the technical competence to partner with Sport TT and the Ministry of Sport in delivering the programs.
01:20 We have the TTOC who has partnered with us in preparing for these programs by offering courses and programs so that when we release the coaches, and you will hear more about that from the others, onto the battlefield, as I like to call it,
01:39 as we seek to reclaim sports' rightful place in society as a true game changer for our people, when that happens it will be with people who have the capacity and capability to deliver the product in an efficient and comprehensive manner.
01:59 Meantime, Minister of Sport, Shampha Kujo, emphasized the importance of the program.
02:04 Student athletes are more likely to socialize better, to manage time more effectively, to think more critically, to win more fairly.
02:15 Following which, the national sporting ambassadors were selected and awarded for their contribution to sport.
