00:00 The Molonglo Valley's population is growing fast, set to reach 70,000 when all these suburbs
00:07 are complete, making a north-south connection across the river all the more important.
00:12 One of the most common questions we get at the Molonglo Forum is what's happening with
00:15 the bridge, when are we getting the bridge.
00:17 Initial groundworks on the $230 million project have now begun, slightly behind schedule.
00:24 Residents rubber won't hit the road for a while yet.
00:26 This project is still on track for delivery in December 2025.
00:30 This will be Canberra's highest bridge, on time and on budget, probably.
00:36 We are more and more confident as time nears about the overall envelope that's associated
00:43 with this project.
00:44 The first stage of the works include footings for the bridge and shifting the route of Coppins
00:48 Crossing Road.
00:49 Once we get the road, Coppins Crossing, realigned, we can start on the main arterial road, main
00:57 and then into the superstructure of the bridge from there.
01:00 Those arterial routes will account for 1.7 kilometres of new roads leading to the bridge.
01:05 John Gorton Drive will also be completed.
01:08 Connecting John Gorton Drive through to Bindubi Street on William Hovell Drive, there are
01:12 future connections planned as part of an east-west arterial linked to the Tuggerong Parkway.
01:17 The new bridge will be light rail ready for public transport generations to come, but
01:21 the immediate future will see two new bus stops and dedicated bus lanes as part of the
01:26 bridge works.
01:27 The project is funded equally by the ACT and federal governments.
