Witnesses have described the chaotic moments before a young man was fatally injured on the gold coast. The court heard there were a series of brawls shortly before Cameron duce was allegedly kicked.

00:01A night out with friends two years ago left 22-year-old Cameron Deuce in hospital fighting
00:08for life. The cause, described by one witness, as a flush kick to the head. He died a week
00:15later in hospital. The accused, Austin Lewis Blainley Ballard, faced court charged with
00:20unlawful striking causing death. Cameron Deuce's parents' grief is still raw.
00:25I haven't asked any of Cam's friends. It was very traumatic for them too.
00:32We've been waiting to get to this stage and now we're here. It's hard.
00:36A committal hearing at Southport Magistrates Court this week will determine if there's
00:39enough evidence to go to trial. Supporters from both sides filled the court.
00:44What we hope for is what we've wanted from the start, which is justice for Cam.
00:48Nine witnesses testified, some saying there were up to five fights that night. Several
00:53spoke of another man who became aggressive. Nearby resident Michael Crowther told the court
00:58he saw a man kick another man in the head. He said, it just sort of got him square. It
01:05was almost like slow motion. He fell back and hit his head.
01:09Ten witnesses are expected to testify tomorrow with the committal set to run for a week.
