The management of CCN TV6 received confirmation on Thursday that Senior Superintendent Roger Alexander was instructed not to appear on the Beyond the Tape show scheduled to air on Thursday evening.

There is currently no confirmation whether this is a temporary or permanent situation. This follows concerns expressed by the Police Commissioner about the popular show during a Parliamentary Joint Select Committee meeting on Wednesday.

Juhel Browne reports.

00:00 Beyond the Tape is co-hosted by journalist Marlon Hopkinson and the police officer, Senior
00:06 Superintendent Roger Alexander.
00:08 However, on Thursday, CCN TV6's General Manager Richard Purcell said there has been a new
00:14 development with the show.
00:16 This morning, the producer of the program Beyond the Tape was contacted by the Senior
00:22 Superintendent Alexander, who told her that he was instructed not to appear on the program
00:26 tonight.
00:29 He then contacted the Corporate Communications Head of the TTPS and it was confirmed that
00:34 he was given that instruction.
00:36 This occurred just one day after Police Commissioner Erla Haywood Christopher responded to questions
00:41 posed to her about Beyond the Tape during the Parliament's Joint Select Committee on
00:46 National Security on Wednesday.
00:48 The questions were posed by the committee's Vice Chairman, Dr. Paul Richards, about who
00:53 he identified as the show's presenter representing the police service.
00:58 So no one is monitoring the show from a leadership perspective?
01:00 Yes, the show is monitored by the Corporate Communications Unit.
01:06 Are you satisfied with what is coming out of the show?
01:10 As the head of the police service?
01:13 At this time, no.
01:15 You're not satisfied?
01:16 And it continues?
01:17 It has been.
01:18 No, actually, the show has been reviewed.
01:20 Okay, thank you.
01:21 We have had this discussion.
01:23 No further questions.
01:24 Less than 24 hours later, CCN TV 6 received the confirmation that Senior Superintendent
01:30 Alexander was instructed not to appear on Beyond the Tape on Thursday.
01:36 Since then, we've tried to contact the Police Commissioner herself, but to no avail.
01:41 At the moment, we are uncertain as to if this is just for a day, if he was instructed not
01:46 to appear for today only, or if it's for the rest of the month, or indefinitely.
01:55 During the Joint Select Committee's hearing on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Herewood
01:59 Christopher gave her assessment of the officer in uniform on Beyond the Tape.
02:04 There may be times when the presenter is a bit adverse to the thoughts of the organisation.
02:16 The presenter representing the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on a national broadcast,
02:22 very popular show, in uniform, and you are telling us he is adverse to what the leadership
02:29 is saying?
02:30 That is a shocking revelation.
02:32 I'm making my comments based on what you would have said.
02:35 Beyond the Tape is a collaboration between CCN TV 6 and the Trinidad and Tobago Police
02:39 Service and has been in existence during the 10 years of former Acting Police Commissioners
02:44 Stephen Williams and MacDonald Jacob, and former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.
