00:00 Big time snowfall rates are moving into the downtown Nashville area with a lot of lift in the mid levels of the atmosphere.
00:06 That's why we have these big dendrites and larger flakes.
00:09 And we have snowfall rates that are approaching or even exceeding an inch per hour.
00:13 There you can see downtown Nashville definitely losing visibility here below a half mile.
00:19 And this is the second round of this snow event.
00:22 Probably had three to five inches last night, another two to four today.
00:25 And this could definitely be the most significant event total since 1996 here in the Nashville area.
00:31 Roads are extremely treacherous, especially those rear wheel drive vehicles attempting to go uphill.
00:37 People are stuck all over the place.
00:38 You can definitely hear sirens that are happening out here.
00:41 And locals are coming out to enjoy the snow as well.
00:44 But temperatures are about 13 degrees right now.
00:47 So it is very cold and definitely very treacherous driving conditions.
00:51 Thankfully, it is a holiday, so not a lot of people are on the roads and they definitely are heating those warnings to stay off because of the dangerous travel out here.
01:00 Road crews are trying to keep up with the rates, but it's just impossible down here in the south because the infrastructure doesn't really support it.
01:07 Not a lot of salt, not enough plows to keep up with an event like this.
01:11 So the roads are snow covered, snow packed, very slippery out here.
01:15 And here you can see Nissan Stadium.
01:17 This is where the Tennessee Titans play snowball in there.
01:21 If they were playing today, they are not.
01:23 But definitely very heavy snow coming out here in downtown Nashville.
01:27 There's Broadway.
01:28 That's where a lot of people were out late last night with those snow covered roads as those heavier snowfall rates are moving in.
01:35 But definitely a classic long duration event driven by the jet streak aloft.
01:39 But should have a couple more hours here of heavy snowfall before it begins to slowly subside through evening here in the Nashville area.
