Although it's been a relatively quiet hurricane season, it is important for people to not let their guards down as the season moves closer to the fall.

00:00Welcome back to AccuWeather Ahead. With the unofficial sad end of summertime nearing this
00:10weekend, AccuWeather experts are reminding everyone that hurricane season does not end
00:14with summer and the Gulf Coast and southeast remain at full risk as we head into the fall.
00:19And as part of AccuWeather's exclusive fall forecast, meteorologist Tony Lawbeck joins us
00:24live from Denver, Colorado to explain why the tropics are still a big concern. So what's on
00:29your mind, Tony? Well, one of the things I will say that is on my mind, and it's probably
00:36on a lot of people's minds as we head into the Labor Day weekend, is how nice it's got
00:40to be right now for us to be talking about hurricanes of the past as opposed to dealing with anything
00:46in the present. It has been a slow start for us here, with the exception of Aaron just recently.
00:50It's been pretty quiet other than a few little tropical systems early on, but we really haven't
00:55been dealing with a whole lot in the way of tropical activity. Certainly no direct hits
00:59on the United States. And while we all cross our fingers that that's going to remain the case,
01:04unfortunately, it's probably unlikely that we're going to see anything like that as we head into
01:08the rest of the, well, I guess the last week of summer, we probably will, or last few weeks of
01:12summer, we might see some of that here. I'm thinking meteorological summer ending, which happens
01:18here in a few days. But we are talking about whether or not that tropical activity is going to be
01:23an issue for us later. AccuWeather lead long range forecaster, Paul Pastelok, has his thoughts on
01:29that. There's no changes in the tropical outlook right now. We still feel the forecast is looking
01:35good. We're still concerned about the Gulf Coast and the southeast. These are, when we looked at 12
01:41years, 12 analog years, the bulk of the storm seemed to be in that general region. Not a whole lot coming up
01:49the east coast, not out of the question. Still got to be prepared, but mostly along the Gulf Coast.
01:58And that is going to be the area of focus for our long range forecasters as we head over the next
02:03month, month and a half for sure. So certainly don't let your guard down by any stretch of the
02:07imagination and enjoy the quiet time. We don't, we'd certainly, nobody's going to be arguing with
02:12the fact that we've been kind of not having much of a season to this point. That's always a good
02:17thing. So hopefully, like I said, we've got our fingers crossed, guys, that we can maintain some
02:22of that quiet here. But unfortunately, as we get a little bit further into the September months,
02:27that may change pretty drastically and may do so pretty quickly. Yeah, we have a long way ahead
02:32of us. Still a long road. Thanks again, meteorologist Tony Lawback in Denver, Colorado. Good stuff, Tony.
