00:00 Hello, welcome to your latest week-long forecast from the Met Office. It's going to be another
00:04 cold week and for some of us a snowy one too and that's because we've got this cold Arctic
00:10 air being brought in by this northerly wind and we're going to stay with this cold air
00:14 through the whole week. With that northerly wind we'll see showers pushing in to similar
00:18 areas mainly northern parts of the UK but at times there will be some features that
00:23 bring some more significant snowfall. And this frontal system you can see here is one
00:27 of those features that will bring some more significant snow through the course of Tuesday.
00:31 There is some uncertainty with the exact track on this and so how much of the areas we'll
00:36 see some snowfall. But we do have a snow and ice warning in force for many north and western
00:41 areas of the UK and that's as that feature brings a mix of sleet and snow to parts of
00:45 Northern Ireland, the central belt, southern Scotland as well as north-western areas of
00:49 England perhaps coming as far south as North Wales too. To the south of that it'll likely
00:56 be quite a dry day, plenty of sunshine but after the very cold start it will feel fairly
01:00 chilly. However as I said plenty of sunshine and the winds are quite light so in the south
01:05 we'll see highs of around 5 or 6 degrees. In the north though underneath plenty more
01:09 clouds sleet and snow is going to be a bit of a gloomy day and we could see some disruption
01:13 on the roads because of that snow. And then through Tuesday night we continue we see that
01:18 feature move off to the east and if we look further south you can see this area of low
01:23 pressure and it's this area of low pressure that we have been tracking for a week or so
01:26 now it's this that will bring a risk of snow to the south coast. There is still a good
01:31 deal amount of uncertainty in exactly the track of the low pressure. At the moment we're
01:36 expecting it to just skim along to the south keeping that risk of snow to the south but
01:40 there is still a small chance of a few centimetres along the south coast. But for the bulk of
01:45 the UK we'll be staying in this cold arctic air through the course of Wednesday. So that
01:50 means it'll be a very cold start to the day on Wednesday. We could be down as low as -15
01:55 in some Scottish glens but widely rurally down as low as -10 degrees in the north and
02:01 closer to -5 degrees in the south. So a very sharp frost to start on Wednesday morning
02:06 and we do have further snow and ice warnings in force. Where we do see that snow overnight
02:11 on Tuesday night and any further showers there'll be an ice risk on the roads. Showers will
02:16 mainly be restricted to parts of Northern Ireland and Northern Scotland through the
02:19 course of Wednesday. So northern areas of England and many central areas seeing a dry
02:24 day, plenty of further crisp winter sunshine and light winds too. So not feeling too bad
02:30 but it is still quite chilly and you can see the deep blues showing a frost lasting through
02:34 much of the day. Notice as well we'll see some further cloud across eastern areas and
02:38 perhaps some snow showers clipping the edge of Norfolk as well through Wednesday afternoon.
02:43 And then on Thursday we see that little change where we continue to see that cold arctic
02:49 air dominating across the UK. There is a frontal system that will bring some more focused
02:54 showers to parts of Scotland but it's here that we'll continue to see the greatest risk
02:58 of snow and ice. There are further weather warnings in force for Thursday and it's going
03:01 to be an even colder start on Thursday with clearer skies for the bulk of the country.
03:06 That means it'll be widely as low as -10 degrees rurally. We could be closer to -20
03:12 in parts of rural Scotland as well. So we'll be keeping an eye on that because those are
03:16 exceptionally low temperatures for this time of year. But further snow showers will move
03:21 in to Northern Ireland as well as Northern Scotland through the course of Thursday. Elsewhere
03:26 though it should stay largely dry. North Wales also seeing a risk of some snow showers as
03:30 well as southern Scotland into the latter part of the day. But further east you are
03:35 the more likely you are to stay dry. And again a very similar feeling day to Wednesday and
03:40 Tuesday. Plenty of sunshine and dry weather so not bad weather to be getting out and about.
03:45 On Thursday evening though we start to see a slight shift in our weather pattern. You
03:49 can see the colours turning slightly paler blue and our wind direction coming in from
03:53 more of a westerly. Now that's a bit of a change than what we've seen for the past two
03:57 weeks now. And we'll start to see that more Atlantic weather bringing some milder, wetter
04:03 and windier weather into the start of the weekend. But before that arrives it will be
04:08 another cold start on Friday. However it's through the course of Friday that we start
04:12 to see that change as the winds come in from the west. We're less likely to see any of
04:16 those showers to many areas of northern England. So it should stay dry. However the far north
04:21 of Scotland will see a mix of sleet and snow. The snow mainly restricted to the high ground
04:26 this time however. But it will turn cloudier from the west through the day. But also temperatures
04:31 will slowly start to rise. So highs of around nine degrees in the southwest by the end of
04:35 the day on Friday. And that milder air becomes more dominant into the weekend. But it does
04:40 bring more in the way of rain, cloud and some stronger winds for the weekend and through
04:45 much of next week as well. So there is a bit of a change by the end of the week. But before
04:49 then there's plenty of cold weather to come. We do have a lot of snow and ice warnings
04:54 in force. And with snow in the forecast the details can change day to day. So it's really
04:58 important to keep up to date with the details. And you can do that by subscribing to our
05:02 YouTube channel. I'll see you next time.
